No ideas but more posters come along during the day and I notice you posted this late last night, so let's give it a bump and see if anyone else knows anything

Came on here looking for tips to keep an 18-month-old entertained on a a flight to Dubai (also in feb)! My parents live there and we have already been once with ds when he was 7 months. Don't have a huge number of tips as we stayed with my parents and mainly hung around the pool... but Dubai was a great place to go with a baby. We got whisked through all the queues at the airport in both directions, everyone made a huge fuss of ds everywhere we went and no one was bothered at all by me breastfeeding him everywhere (very discreetly!). If you want to know anything specific I could try and answer or ask my mum for you. Have a great time.

ive been to dubai 5 or 6 times. but this was before i became a mother!
looking for baby-specific advice pls re the heat, food, taking formula etc

Vulgar · 19/02/2008 09:11

It's hot in April but most places have air con. you can get most brands of formula/baby food and nappies. Prices are much the same as here.

Baby changing facilities are good. People of all nationalities are very nice to children. Expect your lo to be fussed over!!!

Oh but the Taxi drivers drive fast . . . can be a bit scary.

Have a great time.

Any recommendations on using water to make up formula over there? I hear the tap water is quite high in sodium and someone suggested using bottled water, but am quite concerned over the mineral/sodium content. Any advice as to which brands to use? Particularly as will be there for two weeks....

LiegeAndLief · 25/02/2008 12:44

I was advised to use Masafi bottled water, which is what the expats living in Dubai use for their babies. Otherwise I think Evian is fine (read it somewhere!), but it's more expensive than Masafi which is local.

Dubai is very baby friendly. Just came back from visiting my parents there at with 18 month ds - everywhere we went people were smiling at him, talking to him, waitresses would take him for cuddles in restaurants, and we got whisked through all the queues at the airport.

Just noticed I already posted on this thread - flight was absolutely fine!

Thanks for the info LeigeAndLief! It's much appreciated

Hi there....just what I'm looking for, a discussion about Dubai! I have 2 10-month old twins and we'll be travelling in May (hot, I know!).
Does anyone have any advice about getting around safely with babies in taxis and the use of car seats for airport transfers etc?

Any advice is very much appreciated!

MNersanonymous · 02/04/2008 17:42

Standard taxis we went in didn't have car seats. We arranged a transfer from the airport via the hotel and they had a car seat.
You might be better taking your own if you will travel by taxi a lot? Granted this will be annoying with two babies....

ctknight · 04/04/2008 14:46

Thanks MNersanonymous. Did you feel safe with your little one on your lap as I know they drive like maniacs out there?!
Also, which hotel did you stay in? and did you find them baby-friendly?

zebedee1 · 04/04/2008 15:10

Hi there, we had a holiday in Abu Dhabi (so in the UAE and next door to Dubai!) with our 10 month old a few weeks ago. We took our car seat as hold luggage as we were not sure whether local taxis would always have one. We asked the drivers to please drive carefully because we had a baby and they all behaved themselves!
All the usual brands of nappies, food, milk available even DS's favourite Hipp jars. It was hot in march (31-39 degrees) but there's aircon everywhere. All the 5* hotels in the UAE have babysitting services and our lady was excellent.
DS was fine on the flight, just take some toys and don't give them all at once. be prepared to spend a lot of time walking round if your LO is a wriggler like mine! The flight back was overnight and I highly recommend a night flight as DS slept the whole way.,
