Edinburgh break

We were planning to go to Edinburgh for new year. Now with restrictions I need some advice..
If we still go do you need tickets for pubs and can someone tell me a few good ones.
Restaurant recommendations
If there's anyone on here from Scotland there used be a open Christmas bar where there were heaters and singers. It was near the Christmas market entrance,Is this still open?

Any other advice would be grateful

Pubs are going back to seated only with table service, max of 3 households per table, so I’d guess most will require pre booking again. I’d expect those that are open on Hogmanay will already be sold out and potentially now reducing their numbers / changing plans.
I’ve not a clue where you mean with the singers…..there’s a big half outdoor sort of bar on top of Waverley Mall could that be it? It’s on Princes Street between the Balmoral hotel and Waverley bridge.

What sort of restaurants/ budget would you prefer and where are you staying?

Jessie40 · 21/12/2021 21:09

emmathedilema that could be the bar. Its outdoor but felt enclosed with sofas and blankets.
We are staying at a golf and spa resort about 15 mins outside Edinburgh
Restaurants I would say middle prices

I feel you're at a golf & spa resort you'll be more than 15min from the city centre, that doesn't get you to the bypass! Have you got a car as you're best not taking it into the city centre.
Howies is usually recommended for "local" cuisine. Vesta is good for its social values too. Dishonest for Indian. Vittorias for Italian. The outsider for something a bit different. Whiski bar for pub grub.

emmathedilema I think the golf resort has a drop off bus which is 15 mins from the tram.
Thanks for the recommendations

Dalmahoy?

emmathedilemma · 22/12/2021 08:03

Dishoom not Dishonest, blooming autocorrect!!
If you're staying at the Dalmahoy (that would have been my guess too) then you're looking at the best part of an hour into the city centre by shuttle bus and then tram. If you've got a car you can park for free at Ingliston park and ride for the tram.
