Tanzania holiday before starting job?

Hey,

So I've been wanting to get some away in Tanzania for some time now, but I've been worried about the UK putting them on a red list whilst there. I know theyve recently scrapped the list altogether, and it wasn't on there, but who's to say another variant won't trigger yet another set of travel restrictions? Other thing is, I'm starting a new job, after having been off on maternity for a year, and I'm worried that somehow I'm stuck there on my start date. Sounds irrational written like that, I realise! I could also just book some holiday for next year, but it's been a stressful few months, really need some sun and warmth!! I don't know what to do!!!

My honesty will probably get me a roasting from some MNers, but I dont think anyone should be travelling abroad for recreational purposes in the midst of a pandemic.

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz if it wasn't for my job, I'd be sunbathing over there as we speak!

Hmm, I see that only 2% of Tanzania is vaccinated? If you want sun, why don’t you go somewhere with higher vaccination rates this year? Like Dubai (boring I know, but sunny!)

Puppyseahorse · 16/12/2021 13:42

I would do it, because the pandemic isn’t ending any time soon, and to an extent, this is the way we live now. But, travel is very important to me professionally and personally, and I can’t keep putting off the things I love most about life indefinitely. Everyone prioritises different things, and travel might not be top of your list.

So I would go, just make sure you PCR before getting on planes.

Are you taking your baby?

BellaChagall · 16/12/2021 13:44

I would go on holiday without hesitation. I've been away several times this year. I wouldn't go to Tanzania though. They believe that God will protect them against covid.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking Tanzania because I love Africa, the sun, the food, the people everything! I know about the vaccinations rate, the whole continent lags behind, yet somehow has the lowest deaths rate.

@Puppyseahorse yes I'd be taking my baby who'd be 10 months if we went, and if I'm honest it adds to my worry, cos it'd involved taking 2 planes! Perhaps Dubai is a closer option...

It’s an amazing country!!

I would just make sure you have good medical insurance for you and the baby. Out of interest, can babies take malaria pills? I’d love to go to africa with my baby at some point but hadn’t thought through this.

SmellyBlackDoodle · 16/12/2021 18:38

Tanzania wouldn't be my first choice with a baby during a pandemic.
The malaria risk is significant plus you might not have access to up to date covid statistics.
Could you find an alternative destination?
