The issue of teens and single vaccinations for travel

I’m trying to decide on a holiday for next year but as we have dc age 13 and 14, at the moment we are limited due to the requirement to be double vaccinated. The issue doesn’t seem to be being discussed anywhere, is this because people are expecting country rules to change? Or expecting our Govt to change? Or just looking at countries that don’t have these rules? Would be really interested to know.

It's a bloody minefield right now. We were keen to head to Germany this Christmas until we realised that DD2 (14) simply wouldn't be allowed to enter the country. And at the time the papers were full of "great half term breaks in Europe", glossing over the fact that many of the destinations just weren't possible with a single jabbed teen which completely gave me the rage!

poshme · 26/11/2021 09:36

@Busybee5000 it's now every 24 hours...

LadyFuschia · 27/11/2021 23:12

@poshme where is that published? gov.uk website seems to still say 72 hrs.
Also I can’t see what type of mask is required - does it need to be a higher spec than a face covering / standard surgical mask?

AnneElliott · 27/11/2021 23:30

It's difficult isn't it. DS and I went to Greece for half term and luckily it was amazing weather as he wasn't allowed inside restaurants as not double jabbed. Even though he's had a test before leaving he wasn't allowed to eat inside.

Fine if it's nice weather but not so fine if it's chucking it down! I wasn't aware of that before I went.

poshme · 28/11/2021 11:20

@LadyFuschia it's here in French www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus

And I have read somewhere that fabric face coverings have to be certified. Not just neck gaiters. Sorry can't remember where.

We were off to Gran Canaria at Christmas, we can’t go now due to teen dd only having one dose. It was supposed to be a family holiday to celebrate my 50th in January, I’m so disappointed 😢

With all 12-15 year olds now in line for second jabs, please sign the petition here for getting them access to proof of being fully jabbed:

Bramshott · 30/11/2021 11:25

Thanks Schulte - signed.

I get that there are more important things to worry about right now (just cancelling our December trip to France - sigh) but if this can get sorted out in time for next summer it would be amazing.

@poshme I can only see 72 hours on the document ghat you linked to (the English version). Although it does say that things are due to change on 29 November, then gives a link but the linked page is identical.

If you could help me find the bit that mentions 24 hours that would be really really helpful- atm my husband won't believe me 😬.

abricotine · 30/11/2021 19:56

@freckles20 your husband won’t believe you? Confused

Here is a Google translate version of the relevant part of the link provided at www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus. This was all announced by the French Health minister last week. I don’t think there is an English version yet

.
"Health pass"
As of December 15, people 65 years of age and over and people vaccinated with the Janssen vaccine will have to justify a vaccination booster for their "sanitary pass" to be extended .
People aged 18 to 64 who had their last dose of vaccine before June 17 must have their reminder by January 15 so that their pass is not deactivated , since they will have passed the 5-month deadline by that date to be eligible for the recall and 8 weeks to carry out this recall.
Since November 29, 2021, only PCR and antigenic tests dating back less than 24 hours will be constitutive proof of the “sanitary pass”.

freckles20 · 01/12/2021 11:14

@abricotine thank you ever so much for that!

We have a holiday booked with lots of relatives, but it's only my son who is in the 12-15 bracket. Everyone is being very gung ho and not listening to what I'm trying to say about how tricky it's likely to be for my son. They keep sending me links and screenshots of out of date information- so I'm attempting to show them correct up to date info.

They especially won't believe that under current rules my son will need a PCR every 24 hours....

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 07/12/2021 23:45

Portugal isn't asking for teens to be double vaccinated, well at least not at the moment!

My 15yo dd has had one dose, I'm double vaccinated.
