Self-catering cottages in France

Can anyone recommend a good firm for booking self-catering cottages in France? I've never gone self-catering abroad, so have no idea where to start: Google throws up hundreds of sites. Someone recommended a company to me ages ago, I thought they were called VFM, but I can't find any trace of them now. Does it ring any bells? They did good deals that included the ferry fare in the price, including the car.

Thanks!

It's VFB , ponygirl - took me ages, I knew VFM wasn't quite right!

You could also try Holiday Rentals but they are property only; but you could get a v cheap ferry from Speedferries if you book a long way ahead.

We stayed in a cottage in Northern France at the end of October. We used a company called Welcome Cottages .

We've used them for the Uk before, this was first time we have used them in France but we were really impressed. They were great value too - we payed £330 for a week for a 3 bed cottage (double, double plus single, bunks plus single) and that included the ferry crossing between Dover and France.

French Connections are good but neeed to organise own crossing. This year we used Homelidays. Also, this year we booked with Ferry.co.uk (think it was that). Dead cheap but did book by end of Feb. P&O had a sale and they quoted £200 plus. Exactly the same crossing on sme boat cost £120 from Ferry etc. Confirmation email even came from P&O. This was for August school holidays

We've used Welcome cottages a couple of times now and they've always been very good. And cheap .

You are thinking of VFB - Vacances Franco-Brittanique. They are a reputable firm. I can also recommend French Affair, whom we have booked with for next year, Chez Nous (whom we used this summer and Vacances en Campagne, whom we used two years ago.
