Oh...wish I was going again...loved it....Petra was amazing...we got the 3 day ticket as lots to see....you need to climb up a small mountain also which takes time in the heat....haggle for the cabs...we only got ripped off one for a few quid so not moaning....food is very nice...no stomache issues etc....people helpful....not pushy in shops....Movenpick hotel for nice ice cream and plunge pool in Petra....also some interesting old bars to be found..very dark...but with belly dancing and lots of dubious characters but no issues...
lots of palestinian refugees in Aman...all happy to chat in perfect english about the world...saddam hussein still popular...

Do it.
We did Petra, Amman, Madaba, Jerash, Dead Sea, Wadi Rum in October a long time ago. Chilly at night but gorgeous clear days.

We are going in Feb and I am very excited! Our itinerary is Dead Sea-Wadi Rum-Petra-Amman. I’m most looking forward to Wadi Rum I think, looks amazing.

FYI, Ramadan falls over the whole month of April next year, so this particular Easter might not be the best time to go to a Muslim country as things won’t be running completely as normal. If you want to avoid the heat, what about October? The sea would still be warm if you want to snorkel/dive in Aqaba.

My DD went with a friend in their mid 20s a few years ago. They felt safe. They went with Exodus. Fairly standard itinerary as detailed by others but they camped out at Wadi Rum and had plenty of time at Petra. It was a group trip and the guide travelled with them.

I'm also looking at Jordan for next year! Anyone know what it is like for a woman alone? Would hope to rope some people in but if I can't, I'd probably just go. Also, is it possible to get around without a car? I would go to Aqaba and then hopefully do some kind of organised day trips or something.

Why would you do that when you can pay a single supplement and go with a decent tour company and be safe? Driving isn’t easy there so why give yourself the hassle? Just book a tour and you will have someone to talk to!

I've never done a full-on tour like that before. They always seem really overpriced and I never felt like I needed one but I would be more inclined to do it in the Middle East and because I don't know the language there. Is there a company you recommend?
whiteroseredrose · 18/11/2021 18:15

@Dabbydeedo we've not been yet but I'm planned and ready!

Public transport doesn't seem great so our plan is to drive. However I'm told that roads aren't so good, especially the Kings Highway. And you want to avoid driving at night.

I understand your reluctance to go in a group - I'd hate having other people around and have to talk to them. However on this occasion I'd probably choose that option.

@dabbydeedoo
As I said upthread my DD and her female friend went with Exodus. I understand there was a single woman on the trip of around 9 people.

I do understand your reluctance to go with others. However I think Jordan is best done as an escorted trip. There might even be singles departures with some companies. We also think Steppes Travel are very good and have met single travellers when with them. Everyone was friendly but you can pitch in or keep a bit more separate as suits you. The downside is they run to a timetable that might not be yours but talk to them about possibilities.,

Haha yeah - I'm not a fan of having to chat to others I may not get on with but I agree it's probably worth it for Jordan.

Thanks - I'll look into it if I can't persuade anyone to join! The logistics of getting around would be much easier with a tour group, that's for sure.

TizerorFizz · 18/11/2021 19:48

Well you don’t have to be best buddies with them. DH and I have done a few tour groups. We find we don’t gel with everyone but there are usually a few who are ok. We have never kept in touch with anyone from a group tour but we get on well enough whilst with them. We also totally avoid some people. There are ways of doing this!

In June we are going on a small yacht (3rd time). Only 12 passengers. We only need a couple of others to be ok. Would prefer more but we never expect that.

Skiptotheloo1 · 18/11/2021 19:56

I’m going in May with Exodus. I’ve done lots of trips with them as a solo female and it’s brilliant. Normally other solo travellers there too. Trip I’m doing is to Israel too I’m so excited. I can’t recommend them enough
