Where to go for sun&swimming end of October
NoMoreLimbo · 08/11/2021 15:08
Hello all.
I’m looking for some travel tips.
I’m planning (hopping) to take my two DDs (then 12 and 14) on a holiday for October half term next year.
There is a limit to budget and time (a week) so cannot go too far afield.
We are after sunshine and swimming. I am not keen on the Canary Islands.
Does anyone have experience of Cyprus, Cape Verde, Marocco at the end October??

We went to Marrakech with 14 year old DSS at end of October and the weather was beautiful. To keep costs down we spent two nights at a riad within the city walls, which was our fave bit of the holiday, wandering around the markets and people watching. We then went out of town to an all inclusive for 5 nights with water park etc. DSS loved Marrakech.

Cakey46 would you mind sharing the name of where you stayed with the waterpark? And would you recommend it? PM if you prefer. Thanks!

@stacedyer both the DDs and I are both blonde and blue eyed…. That said I travelled India etc some years (read day of dawn) ago so would hopefully be able to handle it. Not sure if DDs would.
@Cakey46 I would also love to know where you stayed please?
@FAQs which area did you stay in on Cyprus? I’m really keen on Cyprus too.
Definitely that or Marrakech.
Can’t go back in thread to see who asked why not Canaries..but my impression may be wrong however, the only one time I’ve been I just felt it was only just hotel complexes and not much else.

Hi there @nomorelimbo the riad we stayed in was riad dar mouassine. Seeing the pics makes me want to go again, it was delightful. If you wanted to splash a bit more cash I can try and remember the fancy one down the road where we had drinks, it was really magical.
I can't recall the out of town, all inc hotel but tbh I'm sure they are much of a muchness.

Paphos area is much better than ayia napa /Protaras. Lots more historical sights (kourion amphitheatre is definitely worth a visit and there's a sandy beach with a couple of tavernas under it) and the town itself is bigger so more interesting. You can also hire a 4x4 and explore the akamas peninsula or go to Latchi and hire a boat to the blue lagoon, or head down towards Limassol or up into the troodos mountains

@NoMoreLimbo we stayed at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel in Limassol, lovely hotel and nice walk along the seafront to the old town, we also had a lovely trip up the mountains to the old monastery and wineries, and Aphrodite Rock and saw all the wishes tied on the bushes on the beach.

Was in Tenerife with the family at the end of October this year. It was perfect.

I spent half term in Ibiza. I’ve also been to Majorca at the same time in a previous year. The temperature was lovely and warm, lots of sun although it did rain once or twice.
My DCs spent all day in the pool, I was quite happy (and warm!) sunbathing with a book. What we enjoyed was being able to play tennis etc during the day in a comfortable temperature.

We went to Tenerife at half term (Costa adeje) - was lovely. High 20s. We were really surprised by how nice the weather was.
NoMoreLimbo · 21/11/2021 09:06
I will have another gander at Tenerife and the area you mention @voxnihili
@Cakey46 thanks for the name of the riad. Will check it out

We have done. Dubai, Lanzarote and Cyprus at half term. Cyprus was warm enough ( rain 3 afternoons out of six) but many things were starting to close down for the winter. Dubai, hot , not every ones cup of tea but my teens love it. Lanzarote, warm , have been to different places, prefer the quieter not built up bits.

If you hire a car there are some lovely little villages in the Canaries - it's definitely not just big resort hotels. Good hiking and nature if you're into that sort of thing too

A bit late to the party but I would suggest that blonde hair blue eyed hassle in Morocco needs to be considered. The only hassle I had in India was families wanting to be photographed with me. Bizarre but totally non threatening.
Also if you're going longer haul, go west. The jet lag just means you wake up early. Far easier to deal with. You just go to bed early. Going east is far more exhausting. Do that leg when you come home.
