Anyone used TravelFX online to buy/order currency ?
Snugglebum20 · 02/11/2021 10:59
looking to purchase US dollars and would welcome feedback. TIA

Does anyone actually have to do this anymore? You may as well be asking about travellers cheques.
Just pay by card and/or take cash out when you get there.
Quick check on moneysaving expert to see what you'll be charged but if you don't already have one, easiest thing to do is get a Starling account and put the appropriate amount of money in there for your trip.
You'll get the official bank rate with no commission or charges so cheapest way to do it.

It’s very expensive to buy currency in this way.
Set up a Revolut account and you can convert it yourself for tiny fees.

I've used TravelFX a few times when I need cash rather than money on a card.
I was a little worried the first time as I did a bank transfer for the money but it was all fine. Just used them last week in fact!
I do also have a revolut card and have it loaded on my apply pay.
We had an issue in New Orleans (Feb 2020) in that hardly anywhere would took apple pay, and I hadn't taken the actual Revolut card with me. We just assumed everywhere would have contactless but they didn't. Ended up costing us loads to take money out of the bank with DHs debit card

thanks for all the replies.
@BarbaraofSeville we need to take cash for gambling in Vegas
MistyElla · 04/11/2021 12:56
Don’t do this! Just get a monzo or transferwise card and pull money out of an atm when you get there.

Or can you use your card to buy chips in the casino if the amount you gamble is higher than cash machine withdrawal levels?

I’d get yourself a Barclays Rewards card. Free cash withdrawals, far better rate than any bureau de change I’ve been to and more convenient. Also 0.25% on all purchases! The last time I used a bureau de change was when a cashier was seriously rude to me and I told myself I will not be using them again and that was three years ago!

Have fun in Vegas! Really enjoyed my time there
