Please tell me what to do with my hotel booking ..........

I have booked a room for £160 per night for a twin room with an extra bed for dd.
Now being advertised as late availability for £100.
They do not allow people who have already booked to have the reduced late rates.

So do I re-book in the other persons name? What worries me is that it will be slightly obvious that one triple room is cancelled and then another booked. What if they cancel my booking altogether? It is a hotel Ive used before and probably will again

Some advice on what to do would be great

bump come on someone with more morals than me tell me what you'd do?

Call them and demand the late rate with the threat to cancel. Do not bluff if you can't carry it out. Have other person on standby to book if you do go ahead and cancel. Does not matter how obvious it is. You worked hard for your money. Spend less if you can.

I cannot bluff, its a busy night in Manchester so not easy to book another hotel. I'm worried about cancelling before the other person re-books too, would prefer to do it the other way around

Don't feel embarrassed! They clearly don't feel embarrassed about their stupid charging policy. But if you are really worried then book the other room at the cheap rate and then a few days later cancel your first room, so the link isn't obvious.

But do check their cancellation policy. Have they taken a credit card number? You might find you save £60 and then get whacked with a 50% cancellation fee.

MaLopez · 11/12/2007 21:32

Even better if other person books before you cancel. Make sure you can cancel though so you don't end up with 2 rooms.

smurfgirl · 11/12/2007 21:32

Cancel the room.

Rebook.

They may nor transfer your rate, but you have every right to cancel and rebook and why not?

christmosschops30 · 11/12/2007 21:36

They have my credit card number but I can cancel up to 1pm the day before (which will be sunday). So I could get my mum to book tomorrow at £100 then cancel my booking on saturday i suppose.

God I feel so bad about it, what if they know?

Who cares if they know? Do not feel bad at all. They surely can't keep track of all the people calling. Also in case you think you might see the person you spoke to on the phone when you check in, you probably won't

christmosschops30 · 11/12/2007 21:45

It is a small privately run hotel only about 15 rooms .
I wont speak when I get there in case they recognise my accent
So i get my mum to ring and book a triple in her name, then wait and cancel mine yes?

don't feel guilty - why should you? They are being silly and letter-of-the-law-ish.

TheYoungVisiter · 11/12/2007 21:47

if (highly unlikely) they challenge you about it on the day then you say there was a mixup over who was booking rooms, both you and your travelling companion thought the other had forgotten. When you spoke you realised you had double-booked and naturally cancelled the more expensive deal. They cannot possibly object to such a reasonable explanation, non?

christmosschops30 · 12/12/2007 09:15

good idea YV. I am still womdering what to do despite overwhelming answers from the law of mumsnet. I know if it was someone else I'd be saying the same but I'm so scared they'll know what we've done and we will end up in Manchester with no hotel booking

Oh well thats sorted it anyway, they are now showing only standard rates for monday so we will stay as we are
