We are going to Australia in a month for 5 weeks. We have made plans to stay in Sydney, Tasmania and Tuncurry as we have exchanged homes with people from those places. I would like to visit the great reef barrief or Uluru but people told me that is too hot in January and February for a small child. Is that true?
Is it easy to move in Sydney and around without the car by public transport with the child.? We will probably rent a car in Tasmania and in Tuncurri but I am not sure about in Sydney. (We are stayin near Bronte beach)
Are there any area with places to walk with the pram, beaches with not surfing, calm near Sydney or Tuncurry?
One practical question: Is it possible to leave the baby in a day nursery for a few hours if we want, for example, to do snorkelling or diving? Thank you very much

Anamuni, January and February are certainly the hottest time of year in Oz, at Uluru it will be 40-45 degrees celsius and the rock is a distance away from any hotels etc so I think it could be difficult with a young baby. The reef spreads for thousands of miles so right up North again would be very hot but I've been to the bottom bit and it was lovely, however I am an Antipodean and perhaps more used to it. The one thing I would mention is that Uluru for example is 3000 km from Sydney and even the closest bit of the reef is again about 1500 km so involve flights of a few hours or a big drive. Sydney is definitely doable by public transport, I was there before children but found it easy, loads of lovely walks, the city is set around the sea and the ferry is a great way to get from one side of the city to the other.
Sounds like a fab holiday and I'm envious! There is also a lovely hotel close to Uluru and it has it's own airport so I think you could easily have a wonderful outback experience but close to aircon

Thank you Gaia for all the information. i think we will miss Uluru, too hot for a a child. Yes, it's a long holiday but now is the moment, a year off from work to take care of the baby.....
Thank you,
Ana
