Krakow, Berlin, Stockholm or Rome in October ?

I know it's ages ago but our next holiday will be October 2022. It will be me and dd who will be 14. We're interested in all these places as city breaks , assuming there are no longer covid restrictions / or by then dd is double vaccinated . She's really interested in history.

Which one would you pick? Rome is probably last because I'm worried about hassle / pickpockets and being out of practice of travelling - but want to go one day.

Berlin is great for vegetarians/vegans. In fact, Berlin is great full stop.

I've been to them all and would go Rome - the most amazing city . Krakow/ beautiful and so safe. Stockholm- quaint - clean and interesting and against popular opinion Berlin last as I found it grey and underpinned by a very heavy weight of its history. But all are interesting.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I agree Berlin is great, full stop, but I didn’t see great choices for veggies/vegan?

It was either

  • Asian cuisine (Thai/fusion/woks) which I do love but I do like to try local food too.
  • Italian, but we live in Italy so not keen on eating more Italian food abroad
  • fake meat and similar uber processed shite which I really hate
  • we did look out for Turkish restaurants but they were mostly kebab joints?

If you can give me any pointers on where to go and eat I’d be really grateful as we’re planning on visiting again. We were staying near KDamm which maybe was not a great place for variety of restaurants?

Krakow is absolutely wonderful. Not too big, cheap and basically just wonderful 😀

Another vote for Krakow. DD requested to go - she would have been about 15-16

we went in October half term and had wonderful weather. Stayed in the Jewish quarter, had a golf buggy tour of the city, day trip to Auschwitz which was harrowingly serene. The old city is beautiful. We found the food to be great (we omnivores) but you had to be a bit adventurous and head off small streets. I discovered cherry vodka........

Do you want to be cold? Krakow will be cold! As will Berlin.

Rome will still be pretty pleasant. We didn't have any hassle or concerns about pickpockets. There are a few people trying to sell you bottles of water but they are very easy to avoid and not really at the level of hassle.

I would go Rome. Went there with ds when he was 16 and also loves history. I loved it and he was in his element. Just a fantastic place to visit and absolutely no hassle of any sort.

Berlin is amazing for veggies, and vegans. Lots of fab food there when I went last with friend. My vegan friend was amazed at the all vegan donut shop. The vegan supermarket.,and all the fab ethnic food available. Going back soon with DD, and trabbi tour on the agenda.

Krakow is also fab. Liked Rome, but would visit other Italian cites over Rome next time.
Never been to Stockholm but it's on my list.

@Melassa If you want traditional food, look out for flammkuchen, which is a bit like pizza. You won't get much traditional type stuff unless it's based around vegan sausages, unless you happen to be there in asparagus season. There's a dish based around potatoes and eggs that you might find in some of the older, very traditional places, but it doesn't sound terribly appealing. There's also a couple of Russian restaurants that have a few veggie options. Prenzlauerberg has a huge choice of restaurants.

We mostly eat Italian, Middle Eastern and various 'Asian' places, as there's so much more choice than in 'traditional German' places. However, next time we go I'll buy an up to date guide and read up before we go. Eg: I think there are a couple of fine dining places that do great veggie food.

Berlin, Krakow and Rome are all amazing cities. Ive not been to Stockholm. In October, I think I'd probably head to Rome. Weather will be lovely and the city will be a little quieter. Ive been a few times and never been hassled. Berlin is a city I love with fascinating history, great museums and galleries. Beautiful parks. But...I know a few friends who have found it a fairly grim place. I think you love it or hate it to be honest. Krakow is wonderful! The idk city is beautiful. The Jewish quarter is a really moving place to visit. We visited Schindler's factory. In fact that whole side of the river has a really interesting history. Fab food and lovely people. Really walkable too. But cold!

I'd go Rome for October. We went there in the October break a few years ago and the weather was perfect, DS 11 was quite taken with the city for some reason.
