Does one dose of vaccine for teens count as 'fully vaccinated' for Spain?

Or will he also have to have a pre-departure test?

Also, can it be a lateral flow test, or does it have to be a PCR? There is a list of four tests that are approved, but I can't work out whether one of them is a LTF or not!

This is the list of approved tests from the British Airways website:

RT-PCR Test
TMA Test
Nucleic Acid Test
RT-LAMP Test

No they aren't fully vaccinated
Not sure about the tests

dementedpixie · 27/10/2021 08:35

.gov site says antigen tests aren't accepted from UK and that is an LFT so PCR would be required

zafferana · 27/10/2021 08:37

Okay, thanks - so a PCR is needed for teen DS.

Pcr.
We used randox.
Do it in plenty of time to get results back, but less than 72 hours before you go.
Everyone needs lft on return. Boots seem a good price.

EmmaStone · 27/10/2021 10:28

We also used Randox for our teens (1 dose of vaccine). Make sure you triple check drop off points - the one I intended to use was closed when I turned up (despite me checking opening hours the night before), necessitating another 2 hours round trip of travel to get to the next closest e.

And be sure it's no more than 72 hours before landing time in Spain.

On return it's LFTs, we've ordered TestingFor All at £18 each, just delivered (arrived home from Spain yesterday).

One dose of vaccine counted as ' fully vaccinated' for my teen travelling to Ireland.
The govt plan is only to give teens one dose ( currently) so surely they are fully vaccinated as there isn't an option or current medical advice to have two jabs.

Sonex · 27/10/2021 10:32

Same here. We've used Express Test drive through at Gatwick a couple of times for the fit to fly PCR, been fine both times. It's annoying they aren't double vacc them. Hopefully they will eventually.

Then tests for all or randox for the day 2 tests (now LFT) for everyone.

It doesnt count as fully vaccinated for Spain though. You need to be 14 days post 2nd vaccination
dementedpixie · 27/10/2021 10:34

And I imagine in time a 2nd dose will be offered

It’s up to the Spanish government what rules they set for entry to Spain. What our government does, or does not do, is irrelevant.
Sonex · 27/10/2021 10:43

Doesn't count as fully vaccinated anywhere in mainland Europe that's I've looked at - because Europe are all (sensibly) giving them 2 doses. Why we aren't when spread via schools is such a big thing is a mystery to me.

rookiemere · 27/10/2021 11:18

@Sonex a health issue ( think it's heart related) has been detected in teen boys on second dose. It's a tiny number that get it and appears to be short term only, but as they can't know the long term effects, they balanced that against the even smaller risk of that group suffering serious consequences from Covid and decided on one dose.
Sadly didn't take traveling into consideration and we're in the same boat with DS 15.
We used in person Express test as a 72hr window is not that great and you don't want to be waiting until day of departure to know if you can go.
Having said that I used Randox for Day 2 PCR tests. Dropped them in box for 4.30 pm pick up and results were emailed back by 2pm next day for the three of us.

Think you can also do a LAMP test within 48 hrs of departure but there were none available near us.

Cardiac myopathy (temporary, mild) in a tiny number of people. I'd be happy with that (miniscule) risk. One of my best friends has a pHd in Cardiac Myopathy - due tomalfohol abuse, not a vaccine, but still. He' s given it to both his sons, which is good enough for me. My older teen boy (16) has already had both doses of the Pfizer, no discernible effected whatsoever. This DS (14) has had one, also not much noticeable effect except a sore arm. I think supply issues is the real reason why they're only doing 1 for now for the 12-15s ( given they spend so much time castigating school children for spreading covid ). What's the difference between a 16y old and a 14y old?

myrtilles · 27/10/2021 22:00

@sonex Most 16/17 year olds have not been allowed to have a second dose either. It is not just an issue for 12-15. I agree that 12-17s should be offered both vaccines.
