Travel restrictions to Tenerife, Rome?

Veronica25 · 23/10/2021 13:50

Thinking of a short break in Rome or Tenerife. What are the current travel restrictions reg vaccine, tests, masks, forms? Do children under 18 still need test? do we still need to fill up the forms to Spain. We went away in Summer to Spain but I am lost at what the restrictions are these days.

Thank you

Non-vaccinated still need a negative test to enter Italy.

Once in Italy, bear in mind that Covid passes are mandatory for many things, museums, restaurants, bars, social events, public transport. Anyone aged 6-18 and not vaccinated can get a pass that lasts for exactly 48 hours by doing an LFT at a pop up testing place.

Masks are mandated virtually everywhere indoors. Many shops etc have people on the doors who'll stop non mask wearers going in.

Under 6s are exempt from testing.

Thank you.

I would love to have a last minute holiday, but it is looking complicated as there are still many restrictions and need a negative test for teenager. We went to Spain in summer and it was worth it, but I think we left it too late to organise something this half term. I just want a bit of sun.

We're in Spain at the moment (and also came in the summer).

Adults double vaxxed - no further tests for entry, but need to complete PLF and upload vaccination proof.

Teens single vaxxed (ie unvaccinated) - PCR tests up to 72 hrs before arrival, upload results to PLF.

In Spain - masks indoors, there is a high level of compliance.

Before returning to UK, PLF which must include your reference number for a LFT for all travellers to be taken by day 2 of return.

We were due to be in Greece, but they introduced the green card system requiring negative LFT to enter anywhere for non-vaccinated people (which lasted 48hrs as described by a PP above), and it was too disruptive (and too risky for the teens) so changed our plans. Also discounted Italy for same reason. Croatia and Spain seemed to be the only places without these restrictions (although I didn't research every country in Europe!).

Personally I'd go for Tenerife as unvaccinated DCs - only over 12s I think - need a PCR test before going and then that's it. We've just been and it's very similar to Scotland in that masks are required indoors and that's about it.
I wouldn't want to go anywhere with a requirement to test every 48 hrs for DCs and paperwork to be shown. A friends DH has just been to Paris with his DD so when I speak to her on Monday I can find out how that went as similar rules to Italy.

I am just back from Italy, Switzerland and France ( I drove as my daughter was starting Uni in Italy). Might be different if you are flying.

If you are double vaccinated, very little issues, but you need to complete passenger locator forms.

In France, the NHS app is accepted everywhere with proof of vaccine. I downloaded the Tout Covid app and managed to get my vaccine certificate on that. Mask wearing is compulsory and you will be asked for your Pass Sanitaire everywhere ( especially if you wish to eat inside). Apart from that, no issues.

The Swiss were only interested in a Vignette( motorway toll pass) to get into the country. Didn't even ask for proof of vaccine, but then we had downloaded the PLF and had my car registration number, so Don't know if they knew already. Masks are compulsory.

Italy, you need an LF done no later than 48 hours before you arrive in the country. We drove to Basel Airport and got one done there. If you aren't double vaccinated you need to self isolate for 5 days. I know it's probably different if you are flying , but we weren't even stopped at the Italian border ,despite driving a British car. However fines are heavy if you don't have it. Again PLF form. You need your proof of vaccine or negative Covid test to get in absolutely everywhere. Bars, museums, restaurants ( unless eating outside), trains, buses etc etc. You do need masks. NHS QR code app works fine. We went to IKEA in Italy to get my daughter stuff and in the restaurant they had 2 huge security guards wanting to see your Covid Green pass before you were allowed to sit down. Masks compulsory. Italians Carry their Masks on their arm.
Biggest kerfuffle was getting back into UK Hmm. Had to have a negative lateral flow ( Calais have loads of walk in places), which was checked before we got on the ferry, and had to provide proof of day 2 PCR test booked before they let you on.

Top tip...take as many UK medical masks as you can, especially if going to Italy. The Italian medical masks are the scratchiest things ever and my face broke out. Ours seem to be much softer.
