Holidaying in Exeter next week for half term and Wondered if anyone knows this area and can give any tips of places to visit nearby? We llike a bit of sight seeing - villages/towns, hiking, beach walking. Don't mind getting rained on! Happy to drive up to 1 hour. Thanks Smile

Paignton, Torquay, Babbacombe, Dawlish and Teignmouth are all nice. At Babbacombe, there’s the cliff railway and model village. Kent’s Cavern is close to Torquay and is good for rainy days.
Seaton Tramway
Buckfast Abbey
House of Marbles
Canonteign Falls
Wildwood Escot
Diggerland
There’s a Go Ape in Haldon Forest

How old are your dc? There's a nice walk from Budleigh Salterton along the river. My dc also used to enjoy flying kites at Woodbury Common and getting the tram from Seaton.

If they are interested in fossils and dinosaurs, Lyme Regis is a good day out but it might be slightly further than an hour.

Exmouth and Honiton.

Beer and Seaton are both lovely.

Ferry from Topsham to Turf and have lunch at the pub there.

Dawlish Warren has a lovely beach, as does Exmouth.

Crealy Adventure Park if the kids would be into it!

Amazing thank you. I'm googling right now!

Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Beer, Branscombe, Exmouth for beaches/coastal walks - the South West Coast path goes all the way along. It's very steep in places though.

Wildwood Escot
Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth
Woodbury Common for walks and great views
Dartmoor for walks/views - Haytor is a good one to start
Exe Estuary trail for walks and cycling
House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey if it's raining
Exeter Cathedral and castle
Haldon forest for walks, cycling and Go Ape

If you'd prefer to ditch the car and get off the beaten track, the branch line towards Barnstaple takes you from Exeter through deepest darkest Mid/North Devon, with some lovely circular and station-to-station walks along the way (the cafe at Eggesford station is definitely worth getting off for, with lovely forest walks as well). Google Tarka Line.
