Sian says: HO HO HO !! Christmas is upon us once again mums, with a 4yr old and 6 yr old getting very excited! , I've been thrilled to find a fantastic new Christmas event about to open at the NEC in Birmingham ( magicalevent.co.uk ) , complete with the opportunity to meet a VIP, Father Christmas. From the very festive and magical programme I have received with my tickets I am as just as excited. The event has a Winter Wonderland and Magical Forest Journey led by a very cheeky fairy called Petal and an Elf called Lester. My 6 yr old is looking forward to the Snow Climbing Walls and Christmas Arts and Crafts, and for my 4 yr old son Snow Slides and Snow Gyms etc, which will be perfect for the little ones. For us mums a Christmas Market for all those last minute little extras we like to find. I have tickets for the 2nd weekend, but have just found out that the tickets for the weekdays are now £10, so definitely worth taking advantage of, and perhaps having one on one time with my youngest, and friends with their little ones. The programme is full of activities, puppet shows and magical adventure; I?m sure something for everyone. Would love to hear from any mums that have been before I've gone on the 16th Dec or that might like to meet up one day during the week ??

The London Aquarium at County Hall?

Chinatown for lunch?

What's their first language? I think Natural History Museum has headphones with various languages, but would check first.

the Natural History Museum is currently showing the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. if the kids like animals and interesting pictures it's brilliant. We've taken dds (now 7 and 5) every year for yonks. tbh, because it's raison d'etre is to entertain, to be asthetically pleasing, to be interesting and challenging it's far more interesting than something that's meant to be educational - and a lot better than a lot of things specifically designed for kids. it is more art gallery like than the rest of the museum - slightly hushed atmosphere and lots of serious adults. however this year - for the first time - they've produced an information and quiz sheet - really good for the 5-10 age. you do have to pay and you get given a time to go in.

V&A is good for kids (and a lot less crowded) if they have their rucksack activities - but might be worth a phone call to check as we went recently to find they weren't doing them that day.

other than that I'd be tempted to try the transport museum at Covent Garden - havn't been myself but heard it's good.

Tower of London is great - but a bit weather dependent.

Imax - at Waterloo or the Science Museum (maybe not if relying on German)

you could hop on a train to Hampton Court - they have guided audio tours - not sure if in german but it's a great place anyway - the maze is brilliant for kids. I love it too.

mama30 - depending on weather, hyde park has been turned into a winter wonderland with tobogun rides, big wheel, father christmas, christmas market, ice skating etc??
