All inclusive resorts June/July next year

Next year we want to take our teen sons aways after GCSE and A level exams. We are used to organising our own holidays in villas or resorts but the teens have had enough and long to go on to an all-inclusive, lots going on for them resort. It's my idea of hell but what can you do???

So I am looking for suggestions of really nice, higher end places. Maybe in Europe but also further afield. I want to surprise them. Plan A was the Caribbean but a quick google showed it was hurricane season. Help! Smile

How about Mauritius? The beaches are gorgeous and the water is comfortably warm. Peak season is over so prices will be quite reasonable. Stay on the west or north west coast.

You've got the combination of beach and rainforest (for cycling/hiking/climbing). Most resorts have a dive school/canoes/paddleboarding etc. The Maritim has an impressive stable.

Locals are a mix of Hindu/Muslim/Christian.

The time difference is only an hour or so and we usually get an overnight flight (direct flights BA and Air Mauritius do/did direct flights).

Thank you. Do you recommend any particular resorts?

You are probably best off ploughing through Tripadvisor reviews TBH.

If you aren't bothered about playing golf that will eliminate a lot. Likewise, it is likely to be quite windy on the East of the Island (so that's another load gone). I can't remember what the south is like in June/July (but a quick google would tell you).

We have stayed at Zilwa Attitude and then Ravenala. They try to make introduce a bit of the local culture into things. Primarily we chose them for the kids clubs (the former had an old ship for the kids to play on and took them on Treasure hunts). Ravenala had massive swimming pools.
There are a couple of Club Meds if your sons want the "full on" active holiday!

We used BA and then Best at Travel for our trips and would happily use either again. BA were brilliant when we were snowed in and then snowed out of the UK one December when we holidayed in Barbados.

Most of the roads are in better shape than England's, but you might want to stick to daytime driving/get taxis.

I am quite envious - it looks as if we're having a big family holiday/get together where I'll end up doing the lion's share of the catering and I feel confident the cousins will spend a lot of time bickering.

Don't rule out the Caribbean if it's amber by then we've been in hurricane season and it tends to rain for 10-15minutes then is glorious sun shine. Mexico would be great for teens

vickyc90 I had thought of Mexico - went to Playacar years ago when it was a couple of huts and 2 hotels. But I saw the beaches are covered with seaweed and it didn't look as nice now. Have you got more recent experience?

Thanks Madcats I had never thought of Madagascar. I wonder what the covid situation is there?

Hard rock hotel Riviera Maya is very popular for teenagers from what I've read when looking Smile

We went to Mexico at the same sort of time post A levels in 2019. Beaches had a bit of seaweed but it was cleaned up quickly and some hotels had barriers up to stop the seaweed coming ashore. There was loads to do with the teens and they loved the all inclusive aspect of it.

I wouldn't recommend Madagascar for people that aren't seasoned travellers. There is a famine on the way. Mauritius, on the other hand....

Thinking of Mexico I am sure there is a hotel right next to a massive water park. Look at Xcaret.

Reusername · 28/09/2021 13:44

Ah yes, fundamental difference! We are very seasoned travellers but not planning on sitting in a 5 star resort during a famine!!!

Mauritus - we stayed at the Heritage Awali, beautiful!
Mexico - we stayed at Occidental at Xcaret and we bought unlimited passed to Xcaret - the hotel has a walkway by the beach bar through to the park, was brilliant

Reusername · 28/09/2021 14:21

Is Xcaret lively for teenagers? Or are you mainly in the resorts?
