I am looking for a car free holiday, beach and town walkable, good transport links to visit, Nice, St Tropez, maybe Cannes.
Any recommendations please?

St Tropez isn’t accessible except by helicopter, boat or massive traffic jam - there isn’t a station anywhere near it. If you’re determined to visit then you’ll need to either hire a car or stay in the centre.

Oh ok, maybe not st Tropez then.

I don’t drive so car is not an option, maybe somewhere near Nice, Cannes?

I’d definitely knock St Tropez off your list. What do you mean by holiday park? Like camp site, Club Med, luxury resort?

Gintime74 · 24/09/2021 10:54

Nothing too luxury , a Camp site, euro camp type place with a pool would be perfect .Would just like somewhere walking distance to a beach and town. And a couple of day trips.

That's quite a large area to cover.
The road to St Tropez is very busy.
There are holiday parks just off the main road from St Maxime all the way to St Tropez.

The train service from St Raphael and Fregus to Nice and Cannes is excellent. By car it will take a while.

You could 2 centre it. A week down near St Maxime and explore the area (excellent bus service). Then a week further up near a train station. You can then explore Nice and Cannes. From there you can get the train to Monaco too and into Italy if you fancied it.

You can also stay somewhere like Les Issambres. This is in between both areas but there is a boat service to St Tropez and Cannes.
You can also drive or get a bus to a local train station and explore Cannes/Nice.

I am familiar with this coastline as I have holidayed there for many years. Feel free to ask me anything.

There's some nice sites in Provence, roads to the coast are good but not sure about trains

There are a few nice mobile home camping sites in Port Grimaud.
They have plenty to on-site plus Port Grimaud itself has restaurants etc around.

Basing yourself in Cannes is a good idea as you have everything you need on hand plus the train is great for zipping along the coast to visit other towns.
No real holiday parks though so you’d be best getting an Airbnb or perhaps staying at the Pierre et vacances La Verrière which is just outside of Cannes but close to the beach and walkable/bus I to town!

I live in Cannes so happy to advise.

Thank you, that’s great.uggmum that sounds like a good plan. I would love to visit Monaco.
I will look for a site nearer to Cannes I think.

If you've decided to move up the coast then I would consider Villefranche Sur Mer.

It's the next village from Nice. It's on the Train line and has its own station. So you wouldn't need a car.

You can get the train to Nice, Monaco, Menton and Italy.

Beautiful beach, loads of restaurants and shops. Harbour and boat trips.

Good bus service too, about 10 mins to central Nice.

Plenty of Airbnb places and I think there might be a Pierre et vacances site on the outskirts of the village.

I haven’t used them in recent years but Pierre et vaccances used to have some great large apartment complexes in good locations along the riviera. Not too fancy or pricey but with good pools and other facilities.

We stayed at a canvas site called La Sirene, in Argeles. There’s a train to the beach and into the town. The site is brilliant for children of all ages right up to teenagers. We drove there but you can fly and get a taxi to the site
