My OH and I are trying to plan a holiday for next year, September time.We fancy going to France (Northern as its OH first time driving on the continent lol!).

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or suggestions with hotels/chateaux anywhere in Northern France that are family friendly (DS will be nearly two by time of hols).

Looking to spend about £100 per night ish.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Stayed in a fab chateau near Mont St Michel a few years ago. Can't remember its name but will try to google... (hold the line please)

Yep, it was the Chateau de Bouceel, and was about £80pn for a double room then. Here's the link

We loved it, very classy and peaceful, and so close to St Malo that a very useful stopover if you are using the ferry port there. Wouldn't have said it was particularly toddler-friendly (sweeping staircases, pond, flock of geese), but if you were happy to keep a close eye on DS, you could call and ask them whether they can offer highchairs or travel cots (or take your own).

HTH.

DH and I drove down through France with DS (2.3) in August and we made a couple of stops on the way at hotels we found on this website alastair sawday. Both were very good and unusual.

We stayed in Compiegne just North of Paris at the Auberge de la Bonne Idee and it was fantastic, food was really amazing there and a fraction of what it would have cost here. Not sure if that is too far South for your plans though and its probably not somewhere to spend more than a night or two, as I dont think there is a great deal to do or see locally, but check out the site for others.

Bayeau is a lovely town - quite small but with a good buzz. Brilliant place to explore the war side of things, Normandy landings, cemetaries, etc. and the bayeau tapestry is there too of course We have stayed in an hotel called hotel matilde in the middle of the town. We are a family of 7 and had two rooms ensuite for about 120 a night.

We have had good experiences at Logis de France some of which do particularly cater for children, but have not stayed in any in Northern France.
