New York this Christmas?

What do you reckon the chances are the US will allow UK tourists to travel this winter? I'm hoping to book NYC for DH's 30th mid December.

*vaccinated

Snookie00 · 17/09/2021 23:42

Are you both fully vaccinated? Paris is close, easy to get to from Edinburgh and is very romantic. Alternatively, Prague is fab and very cheap - think it’s got brilliant Xmas markets too.

It can fe find with s 14-day stay in a non-ban country beforehand. But who has that time on their hands if they work? My mum was supposed to come here this month but her flight was cancelled. I did like at having her come through Mexico for 15 days but she was not keen.

I did read somewhere that it won’t be until after the mid-terms that the ban will be lifted. That’s over a year away! I actually think Old Man Joe had forgotten the van us still in place. It certainly makes no sense now when we can travel from here to Europe and back again. Any variants that they are trying to keep out are already here because of that.

BritWifeInUSA · 18/09/2021 05:59

It can be done, that should say.

KobaniDaughters · 18/09/2021 06:20

Totally agree @BritWifeInUSA it feels like it’s just been forgotten about. My parents are supposed to be visiting us for Christmas and I just can’t see it happening

TuftyRusty · 18/09/2021 09:01

Have you been to Tallinn? It’s lovely at Christmas (but cold!). It’s a very well preserved medieval city, very pretty, and you can do a day trip to Helsinki on the ferry (which is cool in itself especially when there is sea ice). I’d also look at Riga and Vilnius. Budapest could be lovely as well - go to the spas and chill out, or Krakow. We went to Bruges one year before Christmas and it was perfect - although I’m in London so it’s an easy Eurostar for us, you can get there on a short train ride from Brussels.

Good announcement this afternoon OP. Biden is allowing travel.

Charliechoosecarefully · 20/09/2021 17:30

If you and mr op is double jabbed then you should be able to go, so happy for you Grin

Thesaltandthesea · 20/09/2021 19:49

Literally just booked it! And at the right time as flights have already doubled in price 🙈. So so excited!!

Thank you for all of the other fabulous suggestions too

We are booked for December too - after moving the booking 3 times!

Bit worried about what the situation will be with regards to our 15 year old though.. will one jab be sufficient for her to travel there?

Curlybrunette · 20/09/2021 20:33

Glad you got a good price OP.

@Macarena1990 we're in the same boat. Booked to go with DSs in Dec, I really need them to get on with giving kids the vaccine!

MissMarpleRocks · 20/09/2021 20:50

Friends went here for NYE a couple of years back - said it was amazing

But mega $$$

Newnormal99 · 20/09/2021 20:55

@MissMarpleRocks

That's where I am staying! Not for new year though. It's a big birthday so pushed the boat out. It looks amazing.

MissMarpleRocks · 20/09/2021 20:57

I’m told it was/is!

Newnormal99 · 20/09/2021 20:57

And that's why I don't want to reschedule as prices have gone up since I booked it and don't think I could afford it now.
