False positive PCR

I saw a post on here a couple of days ago similar to this but I've long lost it and only got to skim read at the time.
What happens if your PCR test is a false positive due to it still being within the 90 days? I'm sure the post said something along the lines of getting it signed off by a medical professional or something? Or is it just a case of a false positive still being positive and that's it?

Now I'm wondering if I just dreamt this since, if this was the case, plenty of people would still be able to go on holiday instead of stressing about getting a positive result Grin

Lots of people are still going on holiday.

Hi has anyone been to Playa de Ingles in Dec
Is it loud or relatively quiet given the time of year

Goingbackto5oh5 · 15/09/2021 17:41

@jerseygirl12 I know people are still going on holiday but just wondering about those having false positives due to having had covid within the 90 days so it's not really a positive is it?

I thought you weren't supposed to have a PCR if you'd had a positive in the previous 90 days?

samsalmon · 15/09/2021 17:48

Can’t you just show your recovery certificate on the NHS app instead of a PCR if you are within 90 days? Or does it depend on the country you’re going to?

Jerseygirl12 · 15/09/2021 18:04

You could book one and see if it shows positive and then get a plan for your holiday.

Goingbackto5oh5 · 15/09/2021 18:35

It's not for me but for a family member. He tested positive 3 days after first symptoms so end of July/beginning of August. It's not really a holiday but having to go overseas for a family emergency - flight is the end of September. English isn't his first language so I'm helping as much as I can and just trying to get an idea of all possible situations. The country requires a negative PCR test unfortunately.

I believe, that it depends on where you're going, and also being double vaccinated helps massively.

So Spain for instance, if you're double vaccinated you don't need a PCR to get in, so that wouldn't be a problem. Coming home to the UK, currently you have to do a PCR on day 2 when home. In this case track and trace can then say you don't have to isolate if it's within 90 days of a positive result. I have heard differing things though, that it can depend on the T&T person, some seem to let people off, and others don't. Not sure how true that it, surely there is a process?

If your relative is double vaccinated, and depending on which country it may not be an issue at all.

I hope he gets sorted

Goingbackto5oh5 · 15/09/2021 20:19

Yeah luckily he's double vaccinated and has the NHS covid pass letter so hopefully that will also help. I'll look into the T&T process though, thanks :)

He should be clear by then 90 days is the extreme, average is 17 days to be clear on PCR.

Goingbackto5oh5 · 16/09/2021 09:25

@HermioneWeasley that's a relief to hear! Love the username BTW :)

@Goingbackto5oh5 thanks!

hotasharibo · 16/09/2021 14:12

Agree it's very likely he'd test negative. The 90 days thing has been slightly misreported.

It's technically possibly to still test positive after a while but very unlikely. Post people would test negstive after two weeks

Goingbackto5oh5 · 16/09/2021 19:07

Thanks @hotasharibo, I did think it seemed quite a long time to wait but I saw it mentioned a few times on mum's net so thought I'd check!
