Disney 2022- help

Hi,
We’re thinking of booking Disney world, Orlando for June 2022. I’m a teacher but p/t so can finish a bit earlier for various reasons (also in Scotland). So we’re looking at mid-late June.

We are thinking of 10-14 days, perhaps 5 days in a Disney resort and then go elsewhere for another 5 or so days.

Has anyone else done this? Looking for tips re how long to go where and best prices etc.

We will have a 6yo and nearly 3yo.

Thank you!
Ps. I know it’s currently not even allowed, but we’re trying to be positive!

How exciting!

We've done Florida's twice. It's exhausting. Fill every minute, then I'd recommend planning an easy time when you get back home to recover.
We have flown indirect in the past, which has saved us thousands. But I really wouldn't recommend it. It's more hassle, makes the journey much longer ( I think 15hrs+) and doesn't help my fear of flying!

We stay in a condo (apartment). There's loads very close to the resorts. You can get them very cheap and they are amazing standards - like a 5 star hotel accommodation, with air con, laundry and communal pool.

We hire a car, so we can to the parks easily and also so that we can go where we please to eat or pop into Walmart for quick and easy food.

We loved all of the parks. The water parks are amazing fun, but you'll probably want the DC to be able to swim to get the best out of them.

Personally, I didn't like universal studios first time we went when DD was 7. It's a much smaller park and focuses on either tots rides/attractions or teen. No in between. But I think I'm in the minority.

We always go to Kennedy Space Centre which is amazing. We don't to sealife.

It's lots of ££, but fantastic memories.

Join the Facebook groups for lots of tips, ideas, info. Everyone's so friendly.

And enjoy the planning - it's part of the fun!

We’ve gone every year for the last 12 years. Think I can maybe help!

If you can, go for the full 2 weeks! It’s a very long way to go for only 10 days.

Don’t stay on Disney property. You’ll pay very high prices. You’ll get much better value for your money if you book yourselves a villa in the Orlando/Kissimmee area and rent a car. There’s so much more to Orlando than Disney world! Try VRBO for a villa and Undercover Tourist for theme park tickets.

Some of our favourites are shopping at the outlets, mall at millennia and florida mall.

Also worth going for an airboat ride to see the alligators, we usually go to boggy creek for this.

Discovery cove is pricy but a great day out. You can swim with dolphins etc.

In regards to your flights I know that Virgin Atlantic have launched a direct route for the summer from Edinburgh. You can also fly indirect which may be cheaper. We‘ve done it before connecting through either London or New York and it’s absolutely fine! Well worth it if you’re saving a good bit of money!

I’m probably rambling on but if you want to know anything just ask Smile

Happy planning!!

Great, thank you for replying.

We’re thinking of just sticking to the Disney parks- 2 days magic kingdom, Epcot, animal kingdom, a water park. Although I’m not sure if Hollywood studios is worth it? Our children will be quite young, so we’ll be mainly sticking to the more gentle rides. Also, I’ve seen that you can hire buggies and wondering if a 6yo in a buggy is normal?

I’ve joined some Facebook groups and am seeing things about fast passes and dining credits etc. 🤪

For the time that we’re going around Florida, would you recommend hotels or an apartment? It would be nice not to share a room with the kids!
Thank you!

Also, have you done any of the character dining? And what is a ‘making memories’ experience?

The character experiences aren’t on at the moment, but we’re hoping they will be back next year!

Hollywood studies is definitely worth it with toy story land and galaxy's edge.

My daughter was just turned 6 when we went and she was fine walking all the time, though needed carrying back to the bus at the end of the longer days.

There are no fast passes or dining plans at the moment, but the new genie app will be out by then, you'd have to pay for the genie plus that is replacing fast pass I believe. If you were to stay on site I think you could get some dining credits for a June stay, bit not 100% sure.

If you do hire a car, be sure to account for paying the car park charge at Disney each day.

We did princess breakfast at Epcot and met 5 princesses, plus did several of the meet and greets around the parks. Next time we would like to do ohana breakfast with Lilo and stitch assuming it's back and possibly the Winnie the Pooh one. I just watched a video on the breakfast in the castle and we might do that. They are all expensive for what you get food wise, but a good experience for the children.

Michellexxx · 11/09/2021 21:15

Thanks. A travel agent did put a package together that included some dining credits which sounded good.

I have seen some horror stories about the weather in June..but we don’t have much choice because of school to be honest.

Is it unbearable in uk school holiday time??

They have changed things post covid so might be worth waiting a couple of months and seeing what visitors make of it.
They aren't doing the dining plan, hotel /airport transportation, daily included 3 fast passes now. And you have to pre arrange which parks you're going to. And fast passes are extra.

It might not be the best time to go.

I am waiting to see

underneaththeash · 11/09/2021 23:00

I disagree with the previous poster, your children are too young for Hollywood studios, I’d stick to the original plan.
Weather will be hot - 30+ (too hot for me!) october half term is best for weather and crowds. Easter is sometimes good depending on when spring break/Easter falls

ZenNudist · 12/09/2021 00:19

I want to go in May but feel its not the right time to go... post covid. It's our last chance for a 2 week may break.

churchroad · 12/09/2021 01:14

If you’re doing 5 days in Disney I think you would want to do Toy Story land in Hollywood Studios as someone above says. Also the new Mickey & Minnie Railroad? And perhaps the 6 yo will even like a bit of Star Wars by then. I also watched a frozen stage show with my youngest in HS. Worth keeping an open mind. With children 3&6 we did two full days in magic kingdom though, and one day in the other 3 parks.
It’s hard to advise as another poster says all the fast pass stuff has changed. But we have always preferred to stay on site close to MK with young kids. We can make a quick breakfast in the room and pop back very easily if one gets tired. It’s not the cheapest way to do it but we like to be in another part of the US after about a week!

BastilleBastille · 12/09/2021 13:18

Personally I think your children are too young for Hollywood studios! It’s really not worth it! There isn’t enough for them. MK is the biggie for wee ones, definitely worth a couple of days there. Epcot is an easier going day IMO as a lot of it is indoors and air conditioned. AK is hard going in the heat and it’s so “rustic” there isn’t much air conditioning so I would watch the weather and pick the coolest possible day you can to visit.

Don’t hire a buggy, the Disney buggy’s are awful, hard to manoeuvre and uncomfortable for any child to sit in. My little boy will be 18 months and my 2 nephews will be 3 and 5 when we all go and we will bring 3 buggy’s with us. Most if not all the airlines let you bring a buggy for free. A 6yo in a buggy will not be out of place! It can be hard enough going for the wee ones in the heat so they’re worth it!

In regards to hotel or apartment.. definitely rent a condo/villa/apartment. You’ll get much more space to spread out!! If you can push the boat out to rent a small villa or townhouse with its own pool it’s really much easier with the kids than heading to a communal pool for the day and trying to dodge the heat!

Don’t panic too much about the heat in June. We’ve always gone June/July/August (there’s 11 of us go and 6 are teachers!!!). It’s honestly fine. Just be realistic, try not to go to the parks in the absolute heat of the day!

Igmum · 12/09/2021 13:52

We went in August - it was roasting! But still fun (I felt sorry for the poor cast members in costume). DD absolutely loved her Princess makeover session- these are pricey but great. The parks and rides were amazing. I wasn't impressed by the food, which was utterly dreadful. By the end of our stay we'd started going to the expensive restaurants on site and sharing food (enormous portions) which worked much better. Until then it was almost impossible to get fruit/vegetables/salad. Do go to the space station. It's incredible too (and got DD enthusiastic about something that wasn't princesses Grin). Hope you have a fabulous time OP
