Christmas holiday ideas in the UK

Hello!! Anybody have any ideas what are the best places to go to in the uk over the Christmas holidays. It's just hubs and I and previously we only camp over bank holidays and stuff but camping in winters is a no no so does anyone have any ideas which places to visit? Or any cottages/caravan homes to stay in? And any experiences with having a Christmas holiday. It will also be our anniversary so any suggestions welcome..
Thanks in advance!!

That's all a bit vague. What do you want to do when you're there? Are you into coastal walks/nice pubs/shopping/city breaks/somewhere secluded?

The internet is full of cottages for hire, but you need to decide what type of holiday you want first and take it from there. You can do an advanced search on air bnb or any other holiday home website and tick all the things that are important to you.

For me it would be good walking so I might go to the Lake District or the Cornish coast, but I'd want to be near a decent town with plenty of pubs open.

We usually go away to an hotel for Xmas - but not 2020 obvs !
A 3-night package in UK is costing c.£450 pp, but that includes everything from afternoon tea on arrival until breakfast on departure.
By contrast, a WEEK in Italy in 2019 was about £700 including flights !

Sorry for being vague. We like coastal walks but am unsure if the seaside would be too cold esp in December? We like to hike and shop and see scenic spots and are also open to visiting museums or wildlife parks etc.

Oh that's interesting. We're not too sure about abroad because the travel rules keep changing and we'd rather just stay on the safe side and hence in UK...

Exactly why we are doing it. We had 5-6 holidays cancelled last year that were all allowed at the time of booking.

UK is so expensive, but I CBA with all the testing & uncertainty.

Don't forget that a lot of places will be closed over the long break. A few years ago we stayed in London, & apart from the 25th most things were open.

It's never too cold as long as you have the right clothes! And there's nothing better than turning up in a lovely pub full of Christmas lights and a roaring fire after a chilly walk.

Whatever you do book in advance. Places around here are already taking Christmas bookings. I wouldn't camp at Christmas, get a cottage or air bnb but they will probably be ion a minimum 7 night let, and also higher price than ore covid.

We stayed in a cabin with a log burner in the Peak District and had a few nice days out.
Christmas at Chatsworth www.chatsworth.org/events/christmas/
Castleton www.peakdistrictonline.co.uk/christmas-at-castleton/
We also did a candlelit tour of Treak Cavern. There were a few pubs with open fires near where we stayed, and on Boxing Day we went for a walk on Packhouse Hill.

The north Norfolk coast - in particular the villages of Thornham, Brancaster. Brancaster Staithe and Burnham Overy Staithe. They all have pubs with rooms that offer packages. There’s also a lot of cottages up there for rental but most seem fully booked for Christmas already.

The beaches up there are phenomenal. It can be quite cold but it’s one of the driest places in the U.K. Think crisp walks with bright blue skies.
