I have a friend in Milan and a friend in Hamburg who I want to visit. I'm double vaxed, can anyone enlighten me as to entry/exit requirements please? My head is completely fried from trying to understand it all...

Italy has now scrapped the mandatory 5 day quarantine if you're coming in from the UK, so you just need your proof of vaccination thingy or a test done no earlier than 72 hours before entry. That's to enter Italy. You'll need to look what the UK requirements are to then re-enter the UK.

Bear in mind that masks are mandatory in lots of places and there are no exemptions.

You'll also need to show your vax status /negative test result to: eat inside a restaurant (including fast food) travel on longer distance trains and enter museums and other places.

Presumably also a PLF.

Turkishangora · 01/09/2021 20:13

Great thank you. I'll check out the re-entry requirements. I'm only going for 3 nights...

I've also noticed (having been to Rome, Florence, Pisa and Siena in the last month) that prices are much lower post Covid as the hospitality industry gets moving again.

You can get quick tests (sorry not sure what they are in English- the ones where they stick a big cotton bud up your nose and you get the result in about 20 mins) in most pharmacies and pop up tents. They cost €15 more or less.

Re-entry will be a lateral flow no more than 72 hours before returning (not the NHS ones), Chronomics you can buy before you go then do a self test and they’ll send you the certificate. Then you’ll also need to book a Day 2 PCR test before you go (I used Randox) this is done within the 2 days after returning. You will also need to complete a passenger locator form in the 48 hours before you return,

Turkishangora · 01/09/2021 20:34

Ah ok, so a test most days then! But ok sounds doable

@Geamhradh does this mean in Italy? Could I get one at Malpensa airport? Save the faff of doing it on the Sunday I'm there....

There is a private test facility at Malpensa, I think it’s on the arrivals floor. They do the rapid antigenic test though - the up the nose and results in 15/20 minute one as mentioned earlier. I don’t think they do the molecular test (I’m not entirely sure what is required for reentry into the uK). Maybe when you arrive pop in and ask? Otherwise as suggested there are pharmacies that provide them or walk in centres, but again they’re the rapid tests and not the PCR ones, which generally need to be booked. Milan has loads of places equipped for testing, although prices can vary so look around (or get your friend to).

Geamhradh · 01/09/2021 21:09

A quick look at the Malpensa website (though that hasn't been updated since the quarantine has been lifted for travellers from the UK) confirms there are a couple of private companies offering testing on site. Agree with Melassa, have a quick look when you land. One of them (San Donato) seems to do them until 6pm only.

If you are double vaccinated, you don't need to test before you come into Germany but you do need to fill in an entry form. You will need to prove your vaccination status for restaurants etc.
