I recently tested positive 2 weeks ago, fine now and out of isolation period. At the time i asked 119 should i take a PCR at the end of isolation to make sure so i don't infect anyone they said no because my test will show as positive for 90 days!!

I wasn't bothered at the time but just realised this will mean i cant go away for a the weekend abroad now.

Does anyone know a way around this?

Also I've not been jabbed

Do you need a PCR for where you are going or can you do a lateral flow instead?

If PCR, you may well still test positive unfortunately.

Does the place you are going accept proof of recovery from recent Covid?

emlouwat · 31/08/2021 07:04

You should have had a pcr as that would then allow you to have a recovery certificate.

You might not show up positive on a lateral flow though so could visit countries that only need lft test as negative

She might have had a PCR at the time of having covid. People don't generally do a PCR at the end of isolation.

It's usually a negative PCR or proof of having recovered from Covid within a certain period of time.

Why aren't you vaccinated though?

IsabellesMissingSock · 31/08/2021 07:22

Some places accept lateral flow tests to travel to. I recently had covid, and have had both jabs but need to avoid places which require a PCR test. For example, Greece a pre-departure lateral flow test is ok for people who haven't had both jabs. Greece also accept recovery certificate. I think LFT is ok for Spain too, but they don't accept recovery certificates for people coming from the U.K.

I had covid last month and I have never heard of a recovery certificate. I was told not to do lft for 90 days as they will show positive

It's the PCR tests which show positive for up to 90 days, not LFT.

IsabellesMissingSock I thought that too, but I found this on the government website the other day.

First of all get jabbed, it’s so frustrating hearing unvaccinated people moan about covid restrictions when there is a safe and obvious solution to that problem.

Anyway it total depends on the country you are visiting, most countries require a negative PCR test, or you to be fully vaccinated. Some also accept a recent recovery from covid.

Firstly check the country’s entry requirements, and download the NHS App (normal one that you can book doctors appointments on etc) it has a tab that shows your covid “status”. You can’t use a NHS PCR test to fly though, so will need to purchase one.

A family member visiting from abroad caught covid (mild lasted a couple of days, is double jabbed) and was able to fly home with a negative PCR less than a week after recovery, although being double jabbed most likely helped them recovery and test negatively so quickly

Ok, I hadn't heard that either! Interesting! Glad I didn't know that before I booked my trip to Greece (where I am now)! I tested positive on LFTs for 14 days. My day 2 PCR which I have to take in the next few days might be positive, time will tell...
