Testing requirements, Malta, Fully vacc'd

Like many I'm finding the guidelines tricky to follow!

I want to go to Malta (green list) from England, I'm fully vaccinate.

I see Malta doesn't require fully vacc'd adults to test; do I need to do a pre-departure test for any other reason (airline, UK gov)? Do I only need a before coming home test and a day 2 test?

You don’t need any test to enter Malta if you are a fully vaccinated adult. Children under 12 need a PCR test before entering the country but no one else can enter unless they are fully vaccinated. To return to the U.K., you need an antigen test no more than three days before you return and a day two test - the latter must be booked before you leave Malta as you need the code for your U.K. passenger locater form.

I'm going to Malta in September and have also been trying to work out what I need.

This website gives details of where you can get test done before you return back to UK. www.visitmalta.com/en/info/swab-centres/

Yes that's how I read it - thanks for confirming! No kids travelling.

@puglovesbooks No problem. I am in Malta now. Also, you can bring the tests to return with you from the U.K. You do them in your hotel room, upload a photo and they issue you with a fit to fly certificate. We used the Living Care Group.

Oh, thanks for that info! Will check it out now.

Hope you're having a lovely time!

Just to clarify, anyone 12 and over needs to be vaccinated. Non vax can get a test but need to quarantine in specified gov't hotel for 2 weeks. Be wary... dear friend of mine was vaxxed outside of uk (in uk territory) but the vax not recognised by Maltese govt and thus would still need to quarantine (despite being same vaccine as used in uk).

@BunsyGirl I know about the Passenger Locator Form (Uk Gov) but did you also have to do a dPLF (digital passenger locator form) for entry to the EU? Just seen reference to it on Jet2 website.

@puglovesbooks Yes, you do for entry to Malta. It’s a bit of a faff as you have to create an account for each person including a child and complete a separate form for each. Whereas the U.K. version allows you to put children on a parent’s form. The .Gov site setting out the entry requirements for Malta also had a link to a hard copy form to complete. We completed it but they didn’t seem interested in it in Malta. They just wanted to look at our vaccination certs and the negative test certs for the DCs. You have a separate check for Covid entry requirements after picking up your luggage. Border control only look at your passports.

Oh thank you. I have found the website so I will follow it through for each of us - not flying for a couple of weeks but trying to get all my ducks in a row. No children coming which makes it simpler.

@BunsyGirl do I need bug spray? Travelling next week 😊

@puglovesbooks I would say yes. I have been to Malta three times at different times of the year and always been bitten! Usually at the beginning of the holiday when I forget to put spray on!
