I am so confused by the gazillion options I thought I might break with the habit of a lifetime and go through a travel agent

We went with Virgin Holidays, they had brochures just on Florida, don’t know if they still do.

You might find enough info on various forums without needing to use a travel agent.

There are forums for people who go to WDW on a regular basis. Apart from the tickets (and there lots of different types), it’s essentially flights, accommodation and a rental car. That’s easy. A lot of people from the UK like to stay in what they call a “villa” (don’t get excited - it’s just a regular residential home like millions of Americans live in, nothing special). There are plenty of places to book them. Don’t wait till you get here to buy the tickets, there are tickets for overseas visitors that are not available to us here and from what I’ve seen they are better value.

For the rental car make sure you have a huge amount of liability coverage. Usually the most s or dive part of an accident here is being sued by the other party for all sorts of nonsense. Even if the car you hit was parked and empty at the time.

The most expensive part…

GoldStarAngel · 25/08/2021 23:43

Thank you that is helpful. What I really want is to be able to say to a travel agent right this is what we want how much would that be please.

So what I want is to go to WDW from NYC but we can do the NYC bit ourselves as familiar with the city. So fly UK to NYC to Florida then back to UK. And stay in an apartment in the WDW resort - so two bedrooms and a lounge and kitchen. On the skyline or easy transport to the parks. So no need for car. Not sure I can face seven days of parks though which seems to be what people do.

We are currently using Kenwood Travel who are brilliant and really know their Florida stuff.
I know this because I also know lots about Florida holidays!!

When Thomas Cook collapsed I got a like for like holiday with Kenwood for £2K less.
I'm still hoping to go on that holiday next year......

GoldStarAngel
Just read your post, we're staying 5 nights at Disney and usually stay in a very spacious villa so I understand your reservations!!

I used Virgin, I had planned it use their suggestions for my itinerary and then book it all myself but actually there price was impossible to beat. I had a multi center holiday.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 26/08/2021 11:49

You can easily do 7 days at the parks when you’re staying on site.

The travel to and from each park is really straightforward- especially on the skyliner. My sister and BIL went just before Covid and BIL says he wouldn’t stay at a non-skyliner hotel ever again.

Since it’s so easy to get to and from each park, you can go out in the mornings, come back for a snooze swim in the afternoon and then head back to the park for the cooler evenings. Breaks it up a lot more and means you don’t get disney fatigue!

Virgin are extremely good. Just a word of warning that for such a large accommodation on site with Disney you will pay an absolute fortune! That type of accommodation is widely available fairly nearby though if you could stay off site

GoldStarAngel · 26/08/2021 20:02

Thank you again. This is all v helpful. Will check out Kenwood and Virgin.

Wouldn’t use Kenwood. They refused to give us a refund when our holiday was cancelled in March 20. I had to threaten them with legal action.

BunsyGirl · 28/08/2021 07:10

BA holidays tend to be cheaper than Virgin. You can do it yourself online - there’s options to book hotels for only part of the stay and you can add car hire. I found booking separately was much cheaper though. Saved £6k off the price that Virgin were quoting!

It will be good when non permanent residents are able to travel to the US again. Although the delta numbers are rampant there now, it’s killing the airline and tourist industry,

butteredbarmbrack · 28/08/2021 07:51

We did Disney in Florida about four years ago, and similarly found it baffling. We didn't go through a Disney specialist in the end, but used Travel Counsellor.

Would really recommend it - as you say, we were able to tell her "we want to go around these dates, be able to do xyz, hire car and accommodation, some advice on the various park packages, oh and combine with a few days staying with friends in Boston but can't work out if flying to train is best way to get there". She came back with a couple of suggestions priced up, and it was definitely much easier!

Have you visited the DIBB forums? They know everything.
