Acadia National Park (USA)

Anyone been to Acadia National Park in Maine, USA? How does it compare scenery-wise to UK parks like Lake District, Snowdonia etc -- is it worth a transatlantic visit?
(Not interested in 'adventurous' sports / challenging hikes...just enjoying beautiful scenery, moderate walking, and feeling peaceful surrounded by nature.)

It is stunning and U.K. destinations although they have their charms do pale into insignificance in comparison.

It is lovely, it will be quite busy in Summer. I'm not sure I would cross the Atlantic just to see it. I would combine it with a visit to Portland, Maine, which is a great town with a fantastic food and beer scene. The Maine coast is generally pretty scenic.

My recommendation would probably be Nova Scotia, similar landscape of beaches, seashore and forest but a little less visited and more to do.

Its lovely and there are lots of short walks plus drives if you don't fancy walking. I am not sure I would go as far as saying UK sights pale into insignificance but it's certainly comparable with the lake district in terms of scenery. I would also add something else like visit to Boston or Portland to make it worth a transatlantic flight though. I have never been in summer but understand it gets very busy and very expensive, so traveling out of season might be an idea.

Thanks! We would fly in and out of Boston so would spend a few days there as well (we've visited Boston before so it wouldn't be the main focus of the trip).

@CatM1nt I'm curious, do you think Lake District pales into insignificance compared to Acadia in particular? It's hard for me to tell just from online images.

@Chemenger Where in Nova Scotia would you recommend? Looks like the main national park (Cape Breton Highlands) is really remote and hard to get to from Halifax.

I do yes. Acadia is stunning and Maine itself is gorgeous and huge. We aren’t that keen on Boston. I’d just get out of Boston and into Maine. You’ll barely scratch the surface.Vermont lovely too if you wanted to make a loop that big.

I would take the train from Boston to Portland, spend a couple of days there then rent a car to go to Acadia from there.
We spent most of our time in Nova Scotia on Cape Breton, if I recall correctly we took a couple of days driving up there and the same coming back ( on a different route). The roads on Nova Scotia are generally awful but it’s beautiful and rugged. It’s much less crowded than Acadia and cheaper too. The fortress of Louisburg is one of the best attractions I’ve been to anywhere.

There is masses to do in Acadia. We went kayaking and saw eagles, seals bobbing along with us. Sand Beach, Jordan Pond, Thunder Hole,Cadillac Mountain, Bass Harbour Lighthouse, loop road, loads of carriage trails…..it’s a hikers paradise and gorgeous. We stayed in Bar Harbour. The Shore Path is lovely to potter round. We had carriage trails from our motel. Maine itself is stunning. We stopped at and stayed in some gorgeous places. 10 days as part of a bigger trip and barely touched the surface. Cape Cod, Vermont and Maine were highlights and places we’ll return to. Maine was really special.

I was watching a youtube travel vlogger (think that's the right word !) discuss travelling round Maine and some of the surrounding states by campervan. Really interesting as he provided an itinerary as well as places to visit. Can't remember his name as I just happened on him but just search for travel stuff and you'll get some good ideas.
