Holidays
Cordoba- Anyone lived or visited.

This place keeps popping up in my feed and looks amazing. Has anyone visited? I want to wait until it is safe and things open again, so looking at 2022. Did you enjoy it- is it as amazing as it looks?

Yes. Many years ago. The mosque and the old town are stunning. We stayed in a parador just outside Cordoba, and drove in. Driving around Cordoba is not for the faint hearted.

Yes. Did a day trip there when staying in Malaga. Gorgeous city. Also recommend visiting Seville and Grenada if like moorish architecture. Cadiz and Nerja are gorgeous for the sea.

I stayed there many years ago during Semana Santa (Holy Week). It was beautiful. Go to the Mezquita. Drink Montilla. It’s their version of Sherry.

It's very beautiful but just a note of caution, do not, I repeat, DO NOT visit in summer, you'll melt in the heat. Otherwise, really lovely.
redandwhite1 · 15/08/2021 07:43
Yep many times and agree with other poster - it gets VERY hot
It's lovely though!!

It's lovely. I went on a day trip from Seville around ten years ago. Currently around 45°c so it's in the news here a lot. So I'd avoid in late July-August. September still hot though.
Andalucia has so many gems, it's a beautiful part of the world. And people are lovely.

It’s terrific. We went in the Easter holidays snd weather was perfect. Stayed in a lovely old apartment in the old centre. Easy to reach by train from Malaga, so we didn’t drive.

Thans everyone, I guessed it would be very hot in summer, I was thinking April or May.
Geamhradh · 15/08/2021 09:34
My friends have just honeymooned there doing the Seville-Granada-Cordoba triangle.
Lots of airport possibilities to arrive at too.
BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2021 12:02
Ha! We went in May a few years ago, but it was unseasonably hot, basically August weather in May, but it was still amazing.
We flew to Malaga as there were more flights there than Seville or Granada, but we did the El Caminto del Rey gorge walk and camped in the mountains outside Malaga for one night, then spent 2 nights in Granada then got the coach to Seville, where we stayed for 4 nights and went to Cordoba for a day trip by train on one of those days. One of our best ever holidays despite the heat.
We keep saying we'll do it again, because there's still so much we didn't see.
BarbaraofSeville · 15/08/2021 12:03
There's also Ronda and loads of little mountain villages to visit, plus Malaga itself is worth at least a couple of days.
HelplessProcrastinator · 15/08/2021 12:24
Went for a day visit in early October one year. Extremely hot. Beautiful place. Would absolutely love to return and to see Granada again. The Mezquita is amazing inside and was probably the most moving (can’t think of the words to describe it) building I have ever been in.

I loved it. If you’re interested in history, one of our highlights was a trip to madinat al zahra which is an excavated Islamic city just outside. It’s like visiting Pompei, and awesome.
The mosque in the city of course is beautiful, as is the alcazar (palace) and Roman bridge.
Tinpotspectator · 16/08/2021 09:21
The Alhambra in Granada is truly amazing, and that is 2 hours from Cordoba.
Bimblesalong · 16/08/2021 09:24
We stayed there for a few nights and absolutely loved it. Flew in to Malaga and got the train. Lots of possibilities of places to go on to and we thoroughly intend to go again.
Go to a flamenco show if you go. Incredible.
