Am I over complicating this? Holidays and feeding 9 month old

I have a 2.3 year old and a 6 month old, and 6 month old will be 9 months when we plan to go on holiday (Feb 2005). I've been reluctant to commit to a holiday in Mauritius / Bermuda / Dubai (destinations my dh favours)because I am worried about feeding the baby. He'll need mashed food, and it will have to be quite plain, no salt (you know the score). He doesn't do savoury jars (absolutely refuses to eat them - and I don't blame him they taste pants), and I can't really feed him on fruit puree for 2 weeks!

Am I overcomplicating this?

What type of accommodation will you be staying in?
My dd is 9 months and much prefers finger food, although she will eat jars as well. Could you prepare finger food there (or would they provide it?) Its probably not ideal but it might get you through (chesse sandwiches, toast, rice cakes, chunks of cooked veg and fruit, bread sticks and dip...I'm sure you know them already, sorry!)

HMC - I think what babe will eat at 9 months is probably quite different to what they will eat now at 6 months when its all fairly new to them.

I would start getting them used to savory jars by mixing it with the fruit puree. Initially virtually all puree and little savory then gradually increasing the savory and reducing puree until they are eating it straight from the jar.

Another tip is to get them used to eating the food cold - this makes it so much easier when away and access to microwaves/boiling water to heat food up is more limited.

By 9 months he'll also be eating lots of finger foody stuff too - toast fingers/bananas/raisins etc which the hotel will be able to supply.

Go for it - it will be great

I know it is a long time since I had a 9 month old or looked after one but what about also giving bread or toast? are they allowed to have veg maybe you could ask without salt or spices. are they allowed avacardo? what about chicken plain cooked breast?

I may be completley wrong and if I am then sorry but will it not be time for finger foods of a simple sort?

I've been to Maurtius when dd was 9 mths and the restaurant served buffets for breakfast and most evening meals, which was great because we were able to get her a big selection of finger foods that she could pick at. She ate really well at breakfast times with all the tasty breads, fruits and cereals provided, and then would nibble at things the rest of the day. I did top her up a couple of times with baby jars, if she had got too sleepy by the time we ate to bother with finger foods.

Thanks for this - sounds like I am being a bit defeatist and that we should be able to manage. I quite like the idea of stuffing him to the gills at breakfast because there should be a lot of stuff he can eat at brekkie.
