Are there any places for changing and bfing you could reccommend?

Yes, years ago. I don't know about changing and bfing but I'd definitely recommend you use a sling because it gets very busy and there's not a huge amount of space for a pushchair, iirc.

LyraSilvertongue · 29/11/2007 09:59

It does depend on when you're going though.

katwith3kittens · 29/11/2007 10:03

It is very busy there, so second the sling idea. I think I've just used a park bench, although on a cold day might be a bit nippy

Its mostly little individual shops but heres a cafe rouge nearby (ended up with food poisoning.. but thats another story and it was years ago !)and pubs and a nice cafe in the maritime museum and another in the park

Wintersun · 29/11/2007 11:48

I'm hoping to go this Sat morning. Never used a sling so will have to use pushchair.
Hmmm park bench at this time of year sounds very nippy!
I just thought it might be nice and Christmassy there and worth a visit.

Not only is there not a lot of space for pushchairs, but the pavement is cobbled, so its quite bumpy too! Don't let that put you off though it is really lovely and you could use the facilities at the Maritime museum. The little food court round near the Ibis Hotel is fab too! It looks a bit dodgey, but dh has curry from there and dd gets a huge crepe, never been ill yet and we've been going for years! Hav efun.

There is a Costa Cafe in the bookshop next to Cutty Sark DLR and a small Starbucks oposite it. Both are very popular with new mums and meeting places for the local NCT groups. I love the Costa. It also has a great play area for toddlers.

singleparentdad · 29/11/2007 12:48

I've done the Greenwich market. Last time though, I was well and truely toddler laden. If you are watch out for Mr Humbug on the corner. Traditional sweet shop, that could be very expensive and send everyone hyper. I managed to get passed it last time, only to be tripped up by the wonderful cake stall towards one of the exits. I can recommend the cakes with the fudge pieces first hand!

Wintersun · 29/11/2007 13:19

Mmmm cake and fudge. Will be definitely looking out for that

So Costa or Maritime museum (dh wants to go there anyway) it is then for feeding and changing time.

We haven't been on a day out in ages so I'm really looking forward to it.

Thank you ladies and gent!

I wouldn't take a buggy round greenwich market tbh .. I think you'll find it intensely difficult .. can you not borrow a sling?

apart from that 2nd everyone else's comments

Wintersun · 29/11/2007 13:34

Seriously? Its really that busy?
I don't know anyone with a sling.

Do you mean the covered market or the outdoor one, and which day of the week are you planning to go? If you go on a Thursday/Friday then the covered market is open but not that busy so you will be fine with a pushchair or buggy - drop by my stall and I will coo over your LO.
Weekends are much busier and you would have trouble with a buggy then.
As for changing facilities, they are not great: the Coach & Horses pub on the corner has one nice spacious loo cubicle, the loos in the Hardy (on the other corner) are very small and cramped. There are also nice VIctorian underground loos with a fair bit of space (but I don't think there's a changing table) by the side of the park.
There's also a McDonalds which has changing facilities..

foxinsocks · 29/11/2007 13:44

we went quite recently and I was surprised how busy it was. If you go to Cov Gdn often, I would say it was as busy as an average Cov Gdn day.

The only toilets we found (that weren't in a cafe) were the public ones towards the Naval Museum (I think that's what it is...).

We saw people with buggies but they were struggling. Some of the passages are narrow and as others have said, there are a lot of cobbles.

piximon · 29/11/2007 20:09

We go about once a month. In the undercover market DH and I take it in turns to walk down the aisles while the other waits with the buggy, as said it gets really crowded and some people don't watch where they shove their bags etc, also saves having to keep apologising for running people over.

There was something in the local paper about the revamp and renaming of the Antiques market this Sunday with musicians, hot punch and craft activities for all ages.

When my DCs were Bfed I would usually head for the museum for somewhere warm and comfy to settle down if it was too cold in the park.

Wintersun · 30/11/2007 15:27

Thanks for the tips.
Have decided that we will go quite early. I think the market opens at 9.30 and just play it by ear.
Greenwich is quite nice anyway so I'm sure we'll have a good time even if we don't get to go the market.
Would be nice if it doesn't rain too.
