Accommodation in Melbourne

My dh is needing accomodation for himself and a fellow student in Melbourne while he attends his Master of Wine course . T

Unfortunately, the Insitute of Wine Masters has chosen one of the weeks of the Australian Open, so they are really struggling to find accommodation - espcially as they are both "self funding" (ie their employer isn't picking up the tab)

Does anyone have any suggestions for either a serviced apartment or a hotel for 16th to 23rd January (6 nights)? Ideally they would like two rooms but as the course is pretty full on (ie out early and back late) and also beggars can't be choosers, they would consider either a one-bed apartment with twin beds or something with a sofa bed in the living area.

The best I have managed to find so far is the Armadale Seviced Apartments in Prahran at $124 a night for one bedroomed apartment (for which they can request twin beds - but it is not guaranteed from the booking form).

They need to be not too far from Melbourne CBD - the course is being run in William Angelis College (next door to the Telstra Dome) - or at least close to the tram system in order to get there.

Can any Ozzie mumsnetters help - or anyone else who knows Melbourne? Pretty please!

I used the Hotel Club website a lot while travelling for work in Australia - and Medina is a good chain of serviced apartments. Good luck!

This one is more expensive but nice location and looks nice

Generally there seem to be quite a lot available on this [www.takeabreak.com.au]] site. Tram system is pretty reliable, ideally I'd go for St Kilda / Port Melbourne / South Melbourne - or East Melbourne / Richmond, although the latter two will be very popular due to proximity to CBD. I'd guess there will be quite a few corporate apartments going in St Kilda Road (much of which is not in St Kilda proper). Advantage of St Kilda is lots of bars / nice outdoor stroll along the beach if time permits....

Thnaks Legalaline. You're right - they wouldn't wanting a double bed! it also looks a bit luxurious for what they are needing.

If last year's course in Bordeaux is anything to go by (dh and his friend are widening their exposure to different wine markets/producing areas by choosing to do the course in Oz - they have already done the Bordeaux one twice), they will be out of the place by 7am to go to visit vineyards, have seminars, start heavy duty wine tastings and will not be back until late at night, as there are also various meals that form part of the course.

going to the other extreme, you can get $99 bunk rooms here - www.kingsgatehotel.com.au/default.htm - pretty basic but better location in that you cld walk to the Dome for a 7am start.
