PCR day 2 test (amber country)

So it seems our holiday to Majorca next week is happening.

I am finding the PCR day 2 test issue a bit of a minefield. I was all set to use expert medicals as they seem the cheapest (£28) but they've had awful reviews. There are 7 of us travelling (3 young children with no vaccine) and I am trying to keep costs down but balance this against using a half decent company. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you.

Used Randox you get a booking reference via email with discount code £43 each so we bought 4 but yes 40 min round trip to a Dropbox

Do children under 11 need to test?

TwoBlueFish · 05/08/2021 19:50

I used Randox think they were around £48 per test. You do need to drop off at one of their drop boxes so worth looking where they are first.

From the .gov,U.K. site, for U.K. resident children...

If they are aged 4 and under they do not have to take any COVID-19 travel tests.

11 to 17 year olds must take a:

COVID-19 pre-departure test before travelling to England
day 2 test on or before day 2 in England – arrival day is day 0
5 to 10 year olds:

do not have to take a pre-departure test
must take a day 2 test on or before day 2 – arrival day is day 0
If they’ve been in France in the 10 days before arriving in England, they must follow the rules for children who are not resident in these countries or territories.

@churchroad

So long as they get you the code for your locator form in time, it matters a lot less now if they are prompt etc as (assuming you are fully vaccinated) you are not waiting on a result to get out of quarantine!
What @churchroad said. As long as you get your code for the form, the bad reviews about tests not arriving on time don't really matter!

Sorry to hijack but where in Majorca can you get your predeparture test? I’m less worried about the day 2 test but the predeparture pcr one seems harder to find!

I used Randox for my day 2 and it was £43 I think? I'm surprised you found one cheaper for a PCR. I had no problems with them.

There are plenty of walk in clinics in the resorts and also at the airport if you’re in or near Palma. Don’t make the mistake we did of booking and paying online - we got scammed, the clinic didn’t exist, and had to pay twice Angry

Children between the ages of 4 and 11 don’t need a LFT or PCR before flying but they do need their day 2 PCR test

There seems to be a pop up clinic in pretty much every resort. You'll be fine. Also, Antigen is still ok, and cheaper, despite the government advising PCR. I can't see anyone choosing to spend even more on a PCR when they don't have to!

Thanks so much everyone for replying. I've gone with Randox. Initially I was going to order tests to take with us for the return journey to the UK but based on this thread we've decided to just get ones whilst out in Majorca.
