Anyone who lives in Pembrokeshire can you let me know some good family things to do in the rain?
We are arriving tomorrow and hoping to go to Barafundle bay and Tenby sun and mon when weather looks ok. Have booked folly farm for tues but unsure after that!

Is Bluestone blue lagoon open to the public?

Thanks in advance! Smile

I don’t think Blue Lagoon @ Bluestone is open to the public at the moment due to Covid. Hanger 5 trampoline park (just outside Haverfordwest) is good - also has a soft play area for little ones. There’s also Manor Park and the Dinosaur Park nearer Tenby - both mostly outside but ok if just drizzly and not piddling down.
Could take a drive up to St David’s & Solva for a mooch.

NelliesWellies · 30/07/2021 22:56

I’m local (North Pembs) so do let me know if you have any questions!

Wideawakeandconfused · 30/07/2021 22:56

Blue stone is open but you’ll need to book.

Just make sure you take waterproofs and you’ll be fine. If you’ve got wetsuits, the beach is still a must. Even without wetsuits as you’ll get wet and Sandy anyway. Rock pooling and building sand castles will be just as much fun.

There are lots of gardens to visit depending on where you are with lovely coffee shops and trees for shelter.

Much of Folly Farm is outdoors so still take waterproofs. Then you’ve got Manor Farm, Hetherton etc. All mostly outdoors.

The forecast isn’t bad for next week at all but the rule in Pembrokeshire is to go prepared for all weather and you’ll have a brilliant time. Hope you have a blast.

Castles! Pembroke Castle, Carew castle, Manorbier castle all good in the rain. Manorbier is my favourite

QuentinBunbury · 30/07/2021 22:59

Narberth is nice for a wander and lunch

NothingInterestingToDeclare · 30/07/2021 23:00

Just to add blue lagoon is definitely not open to the general public currently only for those staying on the park.

Pembrokeshire here (below Landsker line). Folly farm
Milford Haven Museum

St Davids Cathedral
Picton castle
Haverfordwest leisure centre have a climbing wall
Scolton manor
Llys y fran

TragicKingdom · 30/07/2021 23:04

Manorbier Castle is lovely and there's a fab little beach there.

Pattygonia · 30/07/2021 23:04

Definitely bring or hire wetsuits and have the beach to yourself. Have spent many happy hours surfing (kids) and body boarding (me) at Newgate. The surf shop there hires out boards, wetsuits and boots. Gloves are good too if it’s a bit cold,

Not sure if the torch theatre in Milford is open, if so the cinema there is nice and you can wander round the shops and cafes on the marina (mostly undercover) afterwards. There is also a very small museum.

Castell Henllys

There's a nice pub in Rosebush called Tafarn Sinc.

There's a good rock pooling beach at Amroth and good crabbing off Solva pier

Good fish and chips on the front at Saundersfoot.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 30/07/2021 23:20

The Torch is still closed but the Palace cinema in Haverfordwest is open.

Clerkenhill Farm is open as are Oakwood, Hetherton and the Dinosaur Park. I haven't been to any of them for many years although my daughter and son in law really enjoyed Hetherton a few weeks ago.

Scolton Manor costs £4.50 for parking with an additional charge for the house although it probably wouldn't entertain children much. There is a woodland walk which is good if it is just damp as the rain doesn't always penetrate through the trees (although you do need shoes you can get dirty). There is a massive playground and lots of space to run.

Llys-y-Fran has recently been redeveloped. It already had an amazing playground but it looks to have been extended again.

littlemissblue · 30/07/2021 23:56

Thankyou all! We were in Pembrokeshire 2 years ago and went to Clerkenhill and Pembroke castle then. We loved the creative cafe too so that's a must!

Will check out Newgale beach and Manorbier castle. We have children aged 6,7 and 11.

If you don’t mind travelling eastwards and you are desperate for a water park then spend the day in Swansea at the LC2. It’s on a par with bluestone IMO and has lots of other things to do, as well as being opposite the Wales waterfront museum so plenty to keep you occupied. It’s not that far really. You could also have a mooch around the marina and look at the boats.

Wideawakeandconfused · 31/07/2021 07:43

There are some fab spots for crabbing which the kids and grown ups love - Sandy, solva, Dale.

At Dale there’s also a new water sports centre which takes kids as young as 6 for wind surfing lessons. Would need to book though. They also do paddle boarding lessons. The Griffin is well worth eating at.

Cheguevarahamster · 31/07/2021 07:52

As above. Picton Castle has an "owl garden" which is fun for the kids and included in the price of the gardens which are lovely . Hanger 5 is good for a rainy afternoon. Weather is looking OK in pembrokeshire for the week. (I'm here on holiday now 😊)

AvonCallingBarksdale · 01/08/2021 16:04

Take your hand sanitiser to Folly Farm - we had the worst bug from there in years of travelling. Four of us went down like dominoes, DC still talk about it many years later 🤢
Castell Henlys is fun.

FatCatThinCat · 01/08/2021 16:09

We go to Oakwood when it's raining as it's usually deserted. Pack you waterproofs and enjoy having no queues.

Intherightplace · 01/08/2021 16:11

IMO for all UK holidays you need to go with decent wet weather gear and be prepared to pretty much carry on as usual in the rain.

You can play on the beach, swim in the sea, explore rock pools and walk the coast path perfectly well in the rain if you have the right gear and you get it to yourself. One of my fondest memories from when DC were young was rocking up at an adventure playground in the rain and the adults being able to play too because there was no one else there. Waterproof trousers are great on a slide Grin

All the indoor attractions are expensive for what they are and so busy when it's wet.
