Where should I go?

In the current climate, if you were going to choose a beach holiday abroad, where would you choose and why?

I have got Majorca booked for the 5th but am getting a bad feeling about it. I can amend the location but don’t want to amend the dates.

My biggest concern is staying in a quarantine hotel. Is there anywhere that would let you stay in a private isolation apartment/Villa etc if you were willing to pay for it?

If you are concerned your best bet is to switch to the U.K.. no destination abroad is risk free

Thank you.

I don’t want a holiday in the Uk.

I don’t mind some risk, just feel other destinations may be less risky. Wondered what people’s opinions on those may be.

I went to Majorca at the start of July and it was lovely. If you're concerned about it going amber plus or whatever, wait for the next travel review and pick a destination based on what looks safe at that time?

StarryStarrySocks · 25/07/2021 15:37

I simply would not go abroad in the "current climate".

Caligal · 25/07/2021 15:40

Thank you.

I understand that is your choice. My choice is to go abroad. I am legally allowed to do so.

That’s good to hear. I have no issue with isolating on return, so don’t mind the Amber plus in that sense, it is more that means the risk of infection is high and I have a bit of a fear of a “quarantine hotel” so am thinking about travelling somewhere with a lower risk of transmission. Obviously there are no guarantees at all at this time.

Glad you had a great time.

On the plane back to UK, the plane could not depart due to some people who could not make to the plane, without bags checked in.

I can only presume these are people who got positive results as part of returning back to UK (they are checked in but delay in communication between passengers and airlines).

Risks are there, especially for Amber so I didn't even contemplate unless Green. For me I felt safer abroad than here (UK), and I would never consider Amber or Red for high risks of getting one while abroad. Not here to judge, this is just how I approached the risk.

Also consider timing of 2nd dose and the travel - while vaccine does not prevent carching Covid, common sense dictates higher antibody level in your body would hopefully mean less likely to "have" virus in your body and hence to be "tested positive". And many studies suggest 2 weeks after 2nd dose for antibody to be maximum - which is why many countries require 14 days after 2nd jab as entry requirements.

Again some people think its stupid to travel, its a huge gamle etc, but in the end everything in life is about risk management. Not here do judge, just my thoughts.

My family just did Greece. All very simple and felt very normal and nice. Life is mostly outdoors and that really helped with feeling safe. Arranged for the return COVID test easily enough.

Nootkah · 25/07/2021 16:20

@Caligal Im just back from Menorca and I was told someone who had tested positive the week before had arranged their own villa to isolate. You only have to isolate in the quanantine hotel if you haven't the means to isolate (properly isolate) yourself.

Really? This makes me feel a lot less anxious. Thank you.
