Are you back from a UK holiday and would you recommend it?

Just as the title says really. I’m thinking ahead to next year so would be good to hear of places people have been this year with young kids (5-7) and enjoyed it. Anywhere in the UK.

We like a forest holiday but they are expensive. Anywhere with a beach is great-if you get the weather….

Not newquay. The beach here is great but my god its so fucking loud until the early hours. And so many pissed up teenagers. Glad we're leaving tomorrow. I would try carbis bay. We went there last year and it's much nicer.

We've done two this year. The more successful one -

  • 1.5h door to door
  • very close to beach
  • larger towns in vicinity for day trips / some indoor bad weather backup activities

We have a 3/nearly four year old. I'm never again driving six hours cross-country with a preschooler but YMMV!

Just done a long weekend in Bath (without the kids) it was lovely! The sweltering hot weather helped as it made it feel like we were in a city in the med.

Honestly, love a UK holiday we rarely go abroad. With the kids we do a mixture of country/ beach/ adventure type ones always self catering and we all love it.

We had a great week in the Northern Lake District with family. The cottage itself wasn't amazing but we had two one hour slots per day in a pool all to ourselves and our own hot tub. The area was great - loads to do and explore and much less busy than central lakes. Its Halls Bank Cottages on booking.com.

Welsh coast. Beaches, seals, dolphins, steam trains, castles, mountains, kites, waterfalls. And very little traffic on the roads. Bliss.

In two years time when your DC are 7 and 9 I’d heartily recommend Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire which is great for a combination of countryside with great walks and good food and pubs for the grown ups and a week’s worth of museums for the DC.

Isle of Wight - proper old fashioned fun and the kids loved it! We stayed in Niton which is in the south of the Island. Did Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill, model village, rock pooling, day at the beach etc.

The North Norfolk coast between Hunstanton and Wells Next The Sea. Amazing Sandy beaches and lots to do outdoors.

Dovedale was absolutely rammed this week

We went away midweek without the kids just to have a break and despite not all the schools having broken up places were so busy and we couldn’t get in most pubs for dinner

We ended up eating M&S picnic food back at our accommodation for dinner

Not exactly a gastronomic experience

Weymouth/Dorset is good for families with young kids

Yep, Newquay is a shit pit. I wouldn't even recommend a day out there.

We are just back from a cottage on the Norfolk Broads. Had a great mix of coast and river days out. Being right by the water was incredible. It was like a moving picture with all the wildlife and boats. Our teenagers really enjoyed it and we would now all like to try a boating holiday. Downsides are cost and weather. Though we had wonderful weather I couldn't imagine we would be as lucky again.
