As a comitted museumer have tried many. I like to have a coffee and maybe a sandwich to share with DS. However was recently a bit gob smacked at prices at Museum of Childhood - I couldn't find anything cheap there. Do others think the same? Which museum has got the best caff?

I always like Horniman as its got a huge range of different stuff even if it isn't always haute cuisine.

They're all terrible if you ask me. Though I hear that the National Gallery has some amazingly smart restaurant but that's not quite the same thing.

We had lunch in the science museum today, and Ds had a child's portion of roast pork. A god plateful of nice tender pork, gravy, oasties, yorkshire pud, carrots peas and green beans - £4-25.

But it is hardly a relaxing atmoshere, etc.

The echo in the cafe at Hornimann is awful.

NKF - I meant in terms of good for kids actually so the ones with v smart & expansive places are really for me although Tate Modern Cafe is quite good for grown ups and kids if you want a proper lunch.

What I really had in mind is where is a good place for a coffee & a snack that doesn't break the bank - if I want to go somewhere smart I'd go without the kids & probably not a museum !

I think the Horniman is one of the best- not espscially healthy, but lots of choice. I think the Museum of Childhood cafe is really bad- but their is a fantastic veggie restuarant just round the corner.
The Natural History Museum and the British Museum's cafes are terribly expensive too-
Hey, I just thought, the Maritime Museum in Greenwich has a new cafe-supposed to be good for coffee sandwiches etc.
God, don't I go on....

I'll have to revisit Maritime Museum. They used to do quite good kids boxes with healthy ingredients & their cheese scones where almost a meal in themselves (even had herbs in to get you up to your 5 veg a day).

Where is the veggie restaurant near MOC?

It's called The Gallery on Old Ford Road, which is the road that York Hall and St Margaret's House is on.
It is literally a two minute walk from MOC and I recommend it-good coffee and nice food.
I typed their instead of there didn't I ?

Have you also been to Pellichi's (??) which is nearby - a v well known old style fry up type caff run by Italians. I watched some of World Cup there last yr while waiting for my pram to have new wheels fitted.

Went to the Science Museum with ds1 and ds2 and went here:

Deep Blue

A family restaurant, located on the ground floor at the back of the museum, offering great views of the high-tech Wellcome Wing. Enjoy hot meals from pizzas to pasta, with children's meals also available, including a variety of health main courses and delicious desserts. Activity boxes are provided for younger children to enjoy. Voted runner-up Best Restaurant for Kids by the Observer Food Monthly Awards 2005.

Food was good and not too pricey.

I have been to Pellucci's ?sp. It's hard to get a buggy in there. Good place though.
