Will Italy drop the five day quarantine for Brits?

Trying to decide between the Caribbean or Tuscany. I’d prefer Tuscany because it’s a short flight. We are both fully vaccinated (pfizer).
Looking at late August. Only for a week, so 5 days quarantine would mean we’d go elsewhere.

We see that they currently have a 5 day quarantine for Brits because of Delta variant (fair enough). Does anyone have any insight on if they will drop this by August?

Italian hotels probably don’t ‘need’ Brits in August, as that’s when the Italians holiday.
The situation here looks to get far worse in terms of numbers, before it gets better, so the Italians aren’t likely to relax because of that.

Equally, the delta wave is now taking ground on mainland europe, so it is a matter of time before their cases shoot up. Whether or not they will keep measures relaxed or go rogue like the UK is another thing.

Anyway, do you think that they will allow in Brits without quarantine?

Would love this to be true, but my understanding from reading the paper today is that this applies only to British expats.

Sm701 · 28/07/2021 13:44

Looks like it's for all us and eu travellers with double vac. Fingers crossed just in time for Italy decision process 🇮🇹

bellabride · 28/07/2021 14:13

Looking good….

Geamhradh · 28/07/2021 15:10

BBC is reporting that EU travellers vaccinated outside the UK won't be counted. So it's the same news as earlier this week from the UK side.

Not even that. Just for Brits who are currently abroad for whatever reason but were vaccinated on the NHS in the UK.
Geamhradh · 28/07/2021 15:22

Oh! Updated again on BBC website (4 minutes ago) saying EU vaccines will be accepted.
Bloody wish the BBC would keep up!
Ignore my pp!

bellabride · 28/07/2021 15:32

Just waiting on word from the Italian government now, then.

Geamhradh · 28/07/2021 15:41

Fingers and toes crossed for all of us!

Harrysdoneit · 28/07/2021 20:51

Really hope Italians reciprocate, would make quite a big difference to holidays......

Sm701 · 29/07/2021 22:00

Argh it's been extended. I'm gutted. Think we will still go but means a tricky first 5 days.

bellabride · 29/07/2021 23:11

Oh no. Where else now for a warm break with history.

Sm701 · 29/07/2021 23:13

I can recommend Croatia! Split and the islands are gorgeous. Too late for us to change we are committed and resigned to 5 days isolation in Italy.

There hasn't been a new announcement. Where have you heard it's been extended?
Geamhradh · 29/07/2021 23:44

How weird, I've found it in the UK press but there's been nothing said on Italian news yet.
They must have sneaked it in after tonight's news programmes.

Sm701 · 30/07/2021 00:00

I've signed up to 'the local ' web news page for Italy and it says the health minister has announced it on Facebook tonight.
Not sure if you can read this it's behind a paywall...

They have confirmed that once out of quarantine the nhs vac will qualify for the new green pass...

bellabride · 06/08/2021 10:58

So, now I'm watching for 30th August review: still not given up hope of going to Rome mid September, even if it means only booking a week or two before.

ella7925 · 13/08/2021 18:12

Our government have changed their advice about travelling to Italy today. The FCDO was advising us against all but "essential" travel to Italy. In other words, we were not allowed to go and any travel insurance we had, would be worthless. But, today, for some reason, this has now been scrapped. It is a step forward but makes no sense. In June and July, covid cases in Italy were under 1000 yet we were not allowed to travel there and now they are about 6000 a day yet we are now allowed to travel there.

Let's just hope, on 30 August, Italy removes the 5 day quarantine condition of travel. We should be allowed to go to Italy for a holiday etc if we have had 2 jabs and even take a test before we go. I do not understand the quarantine thing at all. The delta variant is in a lot of countries and increasing.

Missm2021 · 24/08/2021 12:59

Any thoughts at the moment on whether the quarantine will get extended or not? So frustrating not knowing! X

bellabride · 24/08/2021 13:32

Not heard anything about this yet. But the announcement of the last extension was only made at the last minute. Could be Sunday before we hear if anything is changing from Monday.

Geamhradh · 24/08/2021 13:33

It's all quiet over here tbh.
I've given up hope of coming over in the other direction and am off to Florence instead.
In all honesty (and I hope I'm wrong, I'm saving my easyJet vouchers specially!) with the season almost being over, I can't see much changing. The tourists are here, they're just mainly French and German.
Fingers crossed, but I've heard nothing on the news.

Melassa · 24/08/2021 13:56

I am in northern Italy and just saw on the local news that there has been a large presence of foreign tourists, more than last year albeit not as high as 2019. German, Dutch and French are apparently arriving in large numbers which has more than offset the lack of Brits (plus many Italians have stayed local) so I don’t think the Brits are missed much, or not enough to lift the quarantine requirement. One hotelier interviewed has said he adjusted his marketing more towards French and Dutch tourists and it paid off so he will continue. Most continental visitors seem to be driving over too, so no need for flights.

Like a PP I’ve been getting funny looks when speaking to DD in English when out and about, it has become quite unusual

Sm701 · 24/08/2021 16:13

Hi, I'm just back from 15 days in Italy and the first 5 days isolation was totally fine (in fact it was a lovely rest!). Day 5 tests were done at the house. We did stay in a lovely place that first week and the food got delivered from local supermarket. I wouldn't have pressed ahead with the holiday if it had been just one week. We did seem to be the only brits everywhere. The green card is a bit if an issue, it doesn't yet recognise the uk nhs app covid pass. We timed our trips to galleries and inside restaurants to be within 48 hours of an antigen test (days 5 and 12 to come home). So worked around it by showing negative test results. Fingers crossed they stop this 5 day isolation next week as it does seem random. All the Italians we spoke to didn't really understand it.
