Has anyone had a holiday in Namibia?

I'm doing the holiday equivalent of window shopping.

I'm hoping that next summer international travel may be easier.
I'm limited to August and don't want anything boiling hot.
Which led to Namibia and it looks fascinating.

Anyone? Thanks

Yes i have been.

If you get the chance, go for it, its lot more commercialised than when i went but still fascinating, my highlights were fish river canyon, Etosha salt pan and Lüderitz.

I went in their winter too, freezing nights but warm during the day.

A good 15 years ago, but amazing. So much to learn there.

I went 5 years ago and loved it. I recommend seeing the red dunes at Sossusvlei and spending a few days at Swakopmund. There's petroglyphs at Twyfelfontein. Etosha was great too, though the people that I was with, who had been to other national parks in Africa, weren't as impressed by the wildlife. (We saw everything except lions--I thought it was great though). Some of the campsites, though not fancy at all, were you n nice settings.

We've been three times (usually for about 3-4 weeks). All were fantastic holidays.

Get hold of the Bradt guide if you are not doing an organised tour.

We've always used Expert Africa to book everything (usually do a combination of government camps and farm stays).

If you love oysters go to Luderitz and/or take a boat trip in Walvis Bay

I used to work there and have been back several times. It’s a beautiful country with a rich cultural history as well as beautiful nature.

It’s a date, easy place to travel. Generally the roads are good and much is malaria free. I’d recommend cooking through Cardboard Box safari ( they’ve recently rebranded but that’ll work as a Google search), which is a local company employing highly knowledgable Namibians. Let them know what you fancy and you budget they’ll put a holiday together for you.

Just one aside, while days in august can be pleasantly warm ( or maybe hot, depending on your perspective) the nights can get below zero. Pack your thermal pj’s!

Apols for the typos. Hopefully that made some sense!
