European city break - How much would you spend?

Just that really. I'm wondering how much people would expect to spend on a 3 night city break in a European city such as Prague/ Barcelona/ Paris/ Berlin etc.

Price to cover accommodation, breakfast and flights, for a couple? (Not meals out because I think that is so variable - just the basics).

It's for a romantic break, so staying somewhere nice - not a hostel or travelodge type place but somewhere with decent service and a little bit of luxury.

Thanks!

£800-1000

Probably £200ish per night for B&B then £150ish each for flights

Depends on dates. I you can do off peak season and Sunday-Tuesday or anything that’s not a weekend really, £100 pp per flight max. For a really nice hotel, anything from £100 (Prague) to £200 (Barcelona, Berlin) per night.

I’d say £800 as a maximum if you can be flexible with dates and days of the week. Or you could find £10 bargain fights and a nice hotel discount which could half that price.

I'd say £300 per night for a nice hotel with breakfast plus £150 each for flights, so £1200.

£100-£150 each for flights, and around £100-150 per night for an Airbnb or up to £200 per night for a hotel.
I prefer the apartment option and go to a decent local cafe for breakfast, not a fan of the hotel breakfast experience.

In December 2019 I got three nights in Florence in a five star hotel, including breakfast, direct BA flights from City airport direct to Florence (not Pisa) for £289 per person on the BA website. It can often be cheaper to “package” a trip like this through BA, Expedia, Trailfinders etc than booking the components separately. The same trip if I did it all myself came out at £481 pp

£250 on flights, 100 on taxis to airports, £200/night on hotel so about £850 in total I guess

Really depends where you go and how food you are at finding deals. I do flights and hotels separately and can usually get a basic flight of £10 somewhere - if ryan air etc obviously add on luggage etc but I have got BA flights to major cities for £20 so you get hand luggage. Spain tends to be cheap for flights because their aviation taxes are low.

I personally have always loved Budapest, I had a relative who lived there in the late 90s so went a lot before they joined the EU and have carried on. It has certainly got more expensive but is a lot cheaper than, e.g. Italy. I also love a thermal spa so have been to loads in Europe. Hungary has the best.

I would just look at skyscanner and see when and where the cheap flights are. I just choose the whole month, UK as a departure and everywhere for the destination and see what comes up. Then google, check booking.com etc for any destinations that look interesting. If you book somewhere with a good cancellation policy you can continue looking around and if you love somewhere potentially get it cheaper. Planning is part of the fun!. Unexpected gems have been Serbia, Bulgaria, Transalvania and Slovakia.

£400. British Airways do amazing flights and hotel breaks all over europe - staying in great 5 star hotels and are much cheaper than all of you guys are saying you would expect to pay. I always use them and they are fab.

Adding to the above, I look on Tui to see which of their hotels are 4 or 5 star, then search around Expedia and Booking (and obviously direct) to get the best price. Join all the hotel chain websites, they almost all offer member pricing, rewards, 30% off specials etc.
I find the hotel prices relatively similar wherever you are, it's the city itself for food etc that will make the difference.

Just to add, stay central. The luxury is not taking a long underground/tram/bus but walking out and being in the centre. We were lucky to get to Venice last summer when Italy was a travel corridor from the UK. We did not have a fancy hotel but a stunning apartment directly on a canal with boats going past the windows. I tacked it onto a Eurocamp type stay as DD had never been but wanted to go, it was amazing because we had no crowds. We felt like we actually lived in venice and ate out locally. Sometimes a posh hotel can be more restrictive than having more space.

We did have a city break to Berlin booked, but our flights got cancelled Sad

The flights were about £70 each return, and I think the hotel, a modern boutiquey one near Checkpoint Charlie was about £100 a night.

We didn't get breakfast as the hotel breakfast was quite expensive and we'd rather get brunch in a cafe a bit later on. We've also been to Barcelona and it cost a similar amount.
