Which Covid test to travel to Spain

Tamary97 · 10/07/2021 07:57

We are travelling to Spain in the next few weeks with DD who is 14. Which Covid test does she need? Can we do the antiagent Zhejiang Orient Gene Covid-19? or will it be better to do the PCR?

I am getting a bit nervous about the whole thing but can't wait to go on holiday and see the rest of the family.

Thank you

Main thing is it needs to be done within 48 hrs before arrival. It can be either LAMP or PCR - not sure what your first one is, but I'd suggest getting the PCR so you're absolutely sure it dies the job.

Express test at airports gets a good reputation for getting them back quickly.

Tamary97 · 10/07/2021 09:42

Thanks, Did not know reg the express test at the airports. Will check that one out too. I read the antigen tests are valid too, which are cheaper.

Where do we provide the test? immigration control in the UK?

You need to complete the Spanish entry form online within 48 hours of arrival in Spain. Your dds PCR test needs to be within 48hrs of arrival in Spain. Upload the Spanish entry form and PCR test result to the airline manage your bookings page and take copies of everything to the airport. My 15ds flew out to Spain this morning! There were issues with other teens test results not arriving in time and long queues at Heathrow....at 4am! Good luck.

TheWitchwithNoName · 10/07/2021 13:23

We have booked the LAMP rather than the PCR as the result will be back 90-120 minutes rather than 48 hours

Thank you.

So, the test is requested in Spain ? not leaving the UK?

Also, does it need to be PCR? I read the website and it says antigen tests are valid? I was hoping to do that as it takes only one hour to get the certificate

I did not know reg the 48 hours of arrival to Spain, I thought it was 48 hours before flying so that is good to know.

Which one is the LAMP?

I am still hoping the antigen is valid. That is what the website says.

The Spanish website says otherwise though.

What COVID-19 diagnostic tests are accepted for entry into Spain?
2 types of tests are allowed, with negative result:

Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT), which detect the genetic material of the virus (RT-PCR, TMA and RT-LAMP).
Rapid antigen detection tests (RATs), which detect the presence of virus antigens. The tests accepted are those authorised by the European Commission, which can be consulted at the following link.
These tests must have been carried out (taking of the sample) 48 hours before arrival in Spain.

I went to spain a couple of weeks ago (and now back) - I wasn't asked for any test upon boarding because those were the rules at the time (it has now changed). You now need proof of full vaccination via NHS app (vaccined at least 14 days before flight) or a PCR/LAMP/TMA/NEAR test. You can get the LAMP tests done at heathrow airport if you book in advance.

On the way back, I had to show proof of an antigen test to board the flight in spain to the UK.

Sandwichgirl · 10/07/2021 15:18

As Nootkah has said, an antigen test is NOT applicable from the UK. The bit you quoted earlier OP is for EU citizens only.
Your airline will check all your paperwork/on-line documents at check-in.

Tamary97 · 10/07/2021 15:21

Thank you very much. That's very helpful

When you arrived back from Spain, did you have to show proof you had pre-ordered Days 2 & 8 Covid tests? Thanks.

You have to include the reference number for your tests in the Passenger Locator form. So yes, basically.

That's only for Spanish travelers or EU ones. UK is a third country so you need PCR, Lamp or full vaccination. I'm in Spain at the moment and I'm certain those are the rules

Yes. They checked the test booking at the time of boarding (not when I arrived here).
Dohrehmee · 17/07/2021 21:16

If I have nhs letter to show I’ve received the double vaccination. Do I still to have a Pcr test in uk just before I travel to Spain. Also before returning to uk , do I need to have a pcr test in Spain ? And then also have proof I’ve ordered the pcr test within two days of arriving in england ?

TraitForTravel · 18/07/2021 22:08

@Dohrehmee You need proof of vaccination OR PCR test so if it’s the official letter from NHS then you should be fine. You also need to fill in the Spanish pre-travel declaration form online.

When you come back to UK, you need to show proof that you have booked the day2/8 tests before boarding. You also need to show a lateral test negative result.

Please keep an eye on the Gov UK site as all of these change weekly!

hellswelshy · 19/07/2021 09:01

Can anyone clarify the 48 hour timeframe mentioned on this thread for the Covid test for teens, as the Foreign travel section on GOV.UK and the Spanish equivalent state 72hrs as far as I can see.
