Travel to green list from Scotland

Just trying to get my head round the restrictions for Scotland.

We are thinking about going to Menorca next Friday 17/7. Am I right in saying that we don’t need a pre travel test as we are both double vaxxed? But we need to provide proof (do we need the official printed copy from nhs Scotland? If so this will be a deal breaker as it can take up to 14 days. I’ve printed a copy myself but not sure if this is good enough.

What else do we need to do? I’ve read about filling in an online questionnaire. And getting test (£88 compulsory one) on day 2 after return.

Anything else? Do we need to take any tests when we are in Menorca?

Thanks all! Star

If you order the vaccine certificate it should arrive before 17th and then you have something official. Mine only took 4 days or so.
I don't know about the entry requirements for the Balearic Islands. But when I travelled recently I did a lateral flow at the airport just as a precaution as I didn't want any hassle. In my case it was for a family emergency so I wanted to tick all the boxes.

The Scottish gov website should tell you what test you need. Think there is only one option.

Also you might want to check what the quarantine requirements are at your destination in case someone tests positive on your flight!

@Callisto1 I hadn’t thought of that tbh! Although if everyone tests negative before leaving UK, there won’t be another test until before you fly back. Or am I missing something?

Of course, I could test positive before returning, and need to isolate abroad, but they must feel double vaxxed people have a very low risk of catching Covid.

So I’m thinking risk of quarantine abroad is low? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m honestly thinking of deferring this trip. Too much hassle at short notice. No time to really get ready to go and faff around with all the ever-changing rules and regs.

I don't know if it has been mentioned as you also need to take a lateral flow ( paid for and someone must watch you doing it) 2 days before you come back. You can preorder through Collinson's or book when you are away.

We've decided not to go. Although it's currently Green, it was going to cost us roughly £400 more to travel and risk of DS missing start of term. It was the test abroad that I was most worried about - insurance was a bit vague on how much they covered you for that and would need accommodation and new flights.

Your NHS certificate should arrive quickly though. Mine came within a couple of days - a self printed copy will not be acceptable.

I only mention other people testing positive on the plane because it happened to me while flying out. I was lucky because i was not told to quarantine and tested negative later so could fly back.
Honestly my recent experience with travel abroad was one huge nightmare so I am biased. You might find everything is fine for you.

Thanks all! I think I am definitely leaning towards not bothering now. Too much pain for too little gain! The holiday ain’t cheap either, but I’ve booked a week off work and didn’t want it to go to waste.

Any suggestions for a nice place to go in the uk 😂? Not north Scotland as the midges are horrendous at this time of year, and I get eaten alive.

I have so many happy memories of our 1970s holidays in Scarborough, but DH not keen. We like a bit of luxury. Aaargh! Need to get away from this bloomin house for a few days!

We're going to Whitby and I'm really looking forward to it. TBH there might not be great availability for things now, but suspect a few more people will take their chances abroad so if you scan over the next few days I'm sure you'll find somewhere good.

I've just been away, it was fine. I don't have kids though.

Show up, show your official proof of double vaccine letter. Fill out Spanish traveller locator form, you get sent a QR code for entry into Balearics.

Get tested with 72hrs of coming back, an antigen test for €30 suffices and many hotels were offering this (mine was). I got my result in 30 mins.

Fill out UK passenger locator form with booking reference of the Day 2 test you will have bought for when you are home and there you go. Show that and your test result and that was that.

It was worth it for me.
