My brother (double vaccinated) lives in Sweden with his 12yo

We are still waiting to have a funeral for our mum (May 2020)

Can he start to plan to visit yet

Only NHS given vaccines will count.
I've also seen something about it only applying to UK residents.
Sorry Flowers

Yeah uk residents BUT shapps said he was looking to open up to double vaccinated EU and US residents “later in the summer”

Bubblespider · 08/07/2021 21:13

Yes but they will need pcr tests, which they will have to pay for, taken no earlier than three days before arriving in the UK.

No, we still have to quarantine for now. Only UK residents don't have to. @KatyMac, I am in exactly the same situation, have yet to visit my mother's grave. Watched her funeral via Webcast. Flowers PS hope your lovely DD is doing well!
KatyMac · 08/07/2021 21:28

@Geamhradh I am sorry - its awful isn't it

DD just launched her first Arts Council project, supposed to be a show ended up a film on YouTube!!

Yes, current rules are :the pcr tests have to be done in Sweden before you leave, then quarantine and two tests here ( day 2 and 8 ).

parietal · 08/07/2021 22:22

my sister has come over from the USA to see family for the first time in 18 months. if you pay for lots of PCR tests and do your quarantine, then it is allowed.

KatyMac · 09/07/2021 08:36

Yes

But my brother is self employed and cant afford 2 weeks plus a few days off - even if we could work out how his daughter could cope on quarantine

We just esoteric I guess

Can your brother stay with you, since he's coming from an amber list country? I live abroad but was allowed to stay with my parents without having to quarantine in a hotel or book a place for just myself when I visited.

With test to release he could be released from quarantine after getting a negative result on his Day 5 test.

You may need to check up on the rules, but I don't think it's mandatory to stay in the UK for the entire duration of quarantine either.

Fingers crossed he can still visit.

Frazzled2207 · 09/07/2021 09:23

indeed he could come and stay with you and leave again- I don't think there is anything in the rules that stops that.

That said, Grant Shapps suggested on tv this morning that there will be an announcement regarding EU fully vaccinated people within a couple of weeks. Appears to be next on the list to sort.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 09/07/2021 09:28

We’ve got relatives (British citizens) - but obviously no longer resident - who are all double jabbed, but don’t live in an EU or US / Canada / 1st world country
They’re all due to come over in august for a family wedding. I don’t think their countries vaccination jabs are being recognised currently :(

Surely a jab is a jab is jab. Otherwise the world will never get back to normal. It’s not their fault their country was only given “the wrong type of vaccination” according to the powers that be.

Though we’re all resigned to the fact it’ll mean them probably quarantining. Gutting though

Nootkah · 09/07/2021 10:50

@HotToddyColdSauvignon It may be a little bit about the actual jab (although europe are now recognising the serum institure one anyway). I think it will also be a lot to do with how much faith and trust can be had in the particular country's beaurocracy, health surveillance systems etc. How foolproof, non forgeable ia the evidence of vaccination from that country? E. G. Our vaccination cards... Not suitable as proof as very very easy to counterfeit.

I hope your family can visit easily. Things will be different in August.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 09/07/2021 11:02

I know nootkah, and you’re absolutely right, the country they’re in is horrendous for any kind of official paperwork or getting things done right. Just frustrating as we know that OUR family have done things correctly and been safe and secure, just got no way to prove it Grin

KatyMac · 09/07/2021 23:57

Yes I guess he could stay with us but we wouldn't be able to see family or have the funeral/wake/whatever the hell it is after 14 m

And I'm not sure about my niece

We will wait

OP posts:
CaribouCarafe · 10/07/2021 11:03

I'm guessing a week is too long for your brother to spend in the UK with his daughter? 5 days quarantine with you + 1 day to get back the day 5 tests + 1 day for the funeral/wake?

I hope you get to see your brother soon Flowers

KatyMac · 10/07/2021 19:08

@CaribouCarafe that might well be a possibility

Let me ask him and work out about school etc
