Does Majorca accept antigen fit to fly test?

I’ve spent hours (and I’m not exaggerating, HOURS! ) today to try to work out what test we need.

We are travelling early morning on Tuesday so are a bit restricted on testing as loads of places don’t do it on weekends and worrying if I’ll get the results back if we post anything.

I’ve noticed that antigen tests come with really fast results. They also come with fit to fly certification but not all countries accepting them.

Can anyone tell me if I’d be fine with an antigen fit to fly test to Majorca?

No I’m 99% sure it needs to be a PCR I’m afraid

IncyWincy21 · 28/06/2021 23:44

Off the gov website

Get a pcr on the weekend. I bet it’ll cost more but sadly I expect that’s the only way.

Violetlavenders · 29/06/2021 13:27

You need a PCR test to enter Spain.

Spanish government says antigen tests are accepted!

albicocca · 02/07/2021 09:29

The UK Gov website says antigen tests are now no longer approved for UK. The Spanish website says antigen tests are acceptable as long as they are EU approved - I suspect therefore that the UK antigen tests are not EU approved, or at least not all of them. Clear as mud.

There are alternatives to a PCR or antigen test though - like a LAMP test that has a couple of hours turnaround time.

Katie1109 · 02/07/2021 09:50

@albicocca most of antigen tests used in UK are on EU approved list which is provided on Spanish gov website. EasyJet website states antigen tests are ok, Spanish gov and Palma Mallorca airport states antigen tests are accepted too. I have actually spoken with someone at the Mallorca airport and have screenshots of them confirming they accept people with antigen tests

TheresWaldo · 02/07/2021 11:11

Simon Calder has just posted on Twitter that a PCR test is needed.

Mammymar · 02/07/2021 11:19

Antigen tests are accepted in Spain.

Katie1109 · 02/07/2021 11:24

@Mammymar it’s such a confusion everywhere! I think Spain is more than happy with antigen tests, but UK government and TUI is trying to make some more money on PCRs! I phoned TUI and asked the question, because last thing I need is to be turned away at Gatwick with antigen test, but seems like they’re confused themselves and I’m awaiting confirmation that I will be allowed to board!

AnyFucker · 02/07/2021 11:25

From 1st July it’s a PCR test required

TigerLils · 02/07/2021 11:25

I spent hours and hours looking into this. UK gov website says PCR test only and states that antigen test are not accepted (they were before) Spain accepts antigen but depends on where you are coming from and how you got there (by air/sea etc) but I think for UK residents they changed it to PCR only.
Anyone who wants to risk it go for antigen but for the sake of £30-40 we booked a PCR to be absolutely sure.

How do you get PCR within 48 hours from arrival to Spain? It’s impossible where I live and my flight departs at 7am on Thursday morning.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 02/07/2021 11:55

This is TUI's advice

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 02/07/2021 11:55

If vaccinated don't even need to test

TigerLils · 02/07/2021 11:59

@Katie1109 I’ve had the exact same issue. You need to book it with someone who offers next day or same day results.

OP posts:
Violetlavenders · 02/07/2021 12:09

Katie, yes you need to book with a place that does the swab for you and sends it straight off to the lab, with results back next day.

albicocca · 02/07/2021 14:28

The Independent reporting antigen no good.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 02/07/2021 15:36

Are you vaccinated, OP?

TigerLils · 02/07/2021 17:43

I only had my first vaccine…

DS 1 and friends are paying £125 each for a PCR test done on 2pm Sunday, guarantee results back by midnight next day. Flight 9.30 am Tuesday.
Unsure if the 48 hour window relates to departure or arrival time. They land at 12.30pm. Just hope not delayed but then everyone would be stuffed!
Medicspot.
Nail biting stuff!

TigerLils · 02/07/2021 18:04

That’s exactly what I’m doing @cptartapp… annoying but it is what it is.

LAMP tests (currently only offered at airports by Collinson) seem to be the cheapest, and quickest, guaranteed way to get the outbound test. We’re going to go to the airport the day before just to get the test, but you could just arrive early for your flight. £85, and results in 90 mins to 2 hours.
