Hello, I've never been to Ireland and am thinking that this summer might be the time to go.

Has anyone with teens been and have places to recommend?

Hi, I live in Ireland - not a great time to come here if you are travelling from Britain, you have to isolate for 10 days and get two PCR tests before you can even start your holiday. If you are vaccinated, you still have to isolate for 5 days before a negative PCR test sets you free ... some info here -

Or you can sneak in through Northern Ireland?

The same legal requirements apply if you sneak in through NI. They are just much more difficult to enforce.

The current 5 or 10 day quarantine is only the regime until 19 July. After that it should be no quarantine for fully vaccinated and test out after 5 days for everyone else.

I don't think you will find it easy to get accommodation at this stage.

That's what I meant!

I don't know how you would keep teens entertained here at the moment unless they are outdoor types.

ChimneyPot · 28/06/2021 13:19

If you do come over anywhere along the west coast on “The Wild Atlantic Way” will have good surfing spots and great beaches. Generally good for outdoor activities.

Most Irish people are staying in Ireland this summer so accommodation in tourist areas is quite booked up.

If you are thinking of Dublin phone hotels and book direct. There are bargains to be had because very few Irish people go to Dublin for a holiday.

@Wildehorses oh I was hoping that as its part of the UK it'd be ok

So you mean Northern Ireland then?

Annasgirl · 28/06/2021 13:39

HI OP,

unless you own a home on the West coast or know someone who will let you stay in theirs, I would leave it until next year. We have only been able to get 3 days in a holiday home this Summer - and we booked in March! The country is booked out - but only because none of us are allowed to leave this island. As soon as we are all allowed off it again, we will all scramble to get to Europe on our holidays and you will have the whole place to yourself.

Also, and this is a concern, there are so few things open at the moment, and you have to book your meal at a restaurant up to a week or more in advance, that it is probably not the best time to be here (I am about to holiday here with my teens and young DC and I am a bit worried about the lack of entertainment options if it rains).

What part are you talking about?

Annasgirl · 28/06/2021 13:40

Sorry just saw your update - I think the accommodation issue will remain no matter which part of Ireland you visit. But there is way more entertainment open in NI.

Only Northern Ireland is part of the UK.

The rest of Ireland (Republic of Ireland) is not. So like travelling to mainland Europe, basically.

So you mean Northern Ireland? Or do you not know that the Republic is a different country Confused The Republic’s travel advice may change from 19th July, it may not. Given the prevalence of the Delta variant in the UK, I wouldn’t be sure people from the UK will be able to travel freely into Ireland.

Crispynoodle · 29/06/2021 22:32

No! You wouldn't want to come to Northern Ireland! It's awful here honest!

We had a great holiday with teens in NI, on the Causeway Coast. Loads to do if you're a bit adventurous/outdoorsy.
