Will Greece and Spain ban unvaccinated travellers?

Having a bit of a meltdown. Hoping to be in Greece next week. I’m double jabbed (nhs) but partner is not. We’ve both had covid before, happy to quarantine upon return to U.K.

Stressing so much that we won’t be able to go. Spanish islands would be alternative. Not too bothered about cost just had a terrible year (as has everyone) and want to get away.

I think given the current situation, a lot of countries where the Delta variant hasn't yet taken hold are going to be imposing restrictions from UK passengers. Italy has already imposed a 5 day quarantine on entry, irrespective of vaccinations.
I think you just have to check the relevant country's regulations on a daily basis.
Most of Europe is opening up, including freedom to travel between EU countries if you have the digital pass confirming you've had both vaccines or a medical recovered from Covid cert. Not sure if UK travellers have access to something similar?

Spain now changing to only letting double vaccinated or negative pcr test,
Not sure of the start date. Unclear if just Balearics or mainland Spain too.

Thewiseoneincognito · 28/06/2021 10:37

As already said, If Greece has any sense they will stop letting Brits in immediately, they will ruin their summer season if they don’t. Sorry OP I know that’s not what you want to hear but it’s the reality.

By our own standards we are a red list country and the fact our government encourages the public to travel and spread Delta by putting places on the green list is frankly disgusting, it’s not your fault and many others will be in the same predicament as you no doubt.

A quick look at the Spanish govt website seems to include the UK in an annexe as having the same criteria imposed as EU countries, so Vax cert /PCR (or tested on entry) unless under 12.

Start date is thought to be 1 July. Not sure what time on that date.

The 1st July thing is EU wide when the digital green pass becomes accepted.

Medstudent12 · 28/06/2021 10:43

What’s this green pass? Am happy to test before flying and on arrival if needed. Thanks for all the replies.

It's for reciprocal travel between EU countries. Obviously, that no longer includes the UK but some countries (like Spain iirc) accept the same proof from UK travellers, although they have no Green Pass. You need to check individual country gov websites though- because even though, for example, Brits can travel out of the UK towards Italy with no restrictions from the UK side, they have to quarantine for 5 days on entering Italy.

I think testing beforehand and possibly on arrival is a prerequisite for most places. I'm looking at Spain for myself, I have the Green Pass but DD will need a PCR before entry.
Malvarrosa · 28/06/2021 10:58

Are you keeping an eye on the official Greek government advice? As it stands now, either proof of positive test + recovery OR appropriate PCR (within 72 hours of arrival) OR antigen (48 hours) test is accepted (OR proof of vaccination, for those who have it). Make sure the paperwork exactly matches the requirements - normally the airline will check it when you check in, as well as it being checked on arrival in Greece.

travel.gov.gr/#/ - scroll down to the white part. There aren't any plans (officially) to eliminate the ability to enter with a negative test, but it COULD change quickly for travellers from individual countries if, say, another "new" strain is found.

I'm in the same position as due to fly to Santorini in 2 weeks. I am double jabbed so really hoping they stick to the current arrangement. My contacts in Greece say that the Islands are all fully vaccinated so don't think Greece will bow down to what Merkel wants but nothing is certain is it.

Medstudent12 · 28/06/2021 17:52

@Malvarrosa I have my vaccinations on my NHS app. I might print the pdf too in case something was to go wrong with my phone.
