Siblu / Haven Domaine de Kerlann - anyone been?

Thinking of our holiday next year, and this looks good - and we can pay with Tesco Clubcard vouchers ... which is good as I'm on maternity leave at the moment! Would be taking ds (5), and dd (will be 8 months then).

Have you been? What did you think of it? Would you recommend it? What sort of mobile-home did you have? Is it worth paying the extra for the top spec one?

Thinking of going next June ...

Advice from MNers please ...

Yes, we've been there.

We had a top spec mobile home, and I think it is worth doing - you get an ensuite, full bathroom, kitchen with dishwasher, heating and air conditioning.

Our plot was a bit disappointing given we had a top spec and big mobile home.

The pool area was very good - a splash playground for toddlers, an indoor pool, a toddler beach pool and various sporting pools outside.

There was naff evening entertainment that the children loved.

The area is fantastic - lots of beaches nearby, all of them different from eachother.

Thanks for the info scienceteacher - how big is the park? I've never been to a park like this, but ds is now getting to the age where he doesn't want to spend the entire day with us - so this is a new venture for us!

How far could we be from the pool area?

It's a big park - but I don't think anywhere would be more than 10 minutes walk from the centre. You can also drive and park.

thanks very much!

We stayed at a French Life park this year just down the road from Domaine de Kerlann - it was fantastic too so might be worth checking it out for facilities and prices! Nice local area! My ds is 5 and dd4 and they loved it!! Pool area is far better than the photos in the brochure - look on the website. Camping les desux fontaines in Raguenes/Nevez. The pool was brilliant - es the kids pool. There is also a proper swimming pool as well as the kids one, one ofr the slidesa nd fun pool. Camp site kids club was good too and loads of soace for them to run about. The pitches that we saw were all really good - ours was fab! They also had lots of little play ares dotted about throughout the park and 2 large fields that rthye used for football, archery etc at certain times - otherwise the kids just used htem to play in. You can use your Tesco vouchers with French Life too.

Thanks for that Leslaki ... I shall check it out ...

We were warned off this particular site by a friend...I think it really is down to personal preference but it is huge, possibly Siblu's biggest in France, and was reported to be looking somewhat frayed round the edges in terms of park maintenance and accommodation - like scienceteacher says, some of the pitches were not too good (this is hearsay but from a source I trusted).
It could well have been spruced up since then and the location is excellent.
We found the Siblu site further south at La Pignade spotless, well-run and peaceful (latter suited us...) but I think Brittany has the edge scenery-wise on the Charente Maritime tbh

ejt1764 · 26/11/2007 11:46

Thank you for the warning - I'm not a great fan of enormous sites - so perhaps it's not for us after all!

We asked Siblu themselves for advice, ejt, based on our wish to go for as quiet and "natural" a setting as possible, and the three they recommended were:

La Pignade
Le Bois Dormant (this one is opposite a much bigger Siblu park whose facilities you can use, Le Bois Masson)
La Reserve, in Aquitaine - ie - much further south

The caravan (top range without a terrace) was fabulous, way exceeded our expectations

We won our holiday on Mn and had a wonderful time in June - warm weather and the park was blissfully uncrowded, although the small resort it was in was really not open for business properly yet.

Haven and Siblu are actually outside our price range for school hols, sadly, so I hope you get a good deal on your trip and enjoy it as much as we did

ejt1764 · 27/11/2007 21:38

We will be cheating - I'm an Maternity leave at the moment (I'm a teacher!), and we're intending (for the only time we'll ever be able to do it!) to take ds out of school for 2 weeks to go in June - we'll not be able to afford their prices either!

Thanks for the tip about contacting them ...

Bois Dormant was the one for us with young kids. Plenty to do in the area and a big safe and empty beach especially in June. Pools are good and safe and slides are well kept. Two large play areas on site with some more opposite. Huge indoor and out door kids club

AMerryScot · 29/11/2007 18:13

I wouldn't say Domaine de Kerlann was run down. I thought that it was fairly immaculate, really. The pool area was very new looking, and very imaginative. Playgrounds and sportsgrounds were all well kept, decent entertainment area etc.

The biggest drawback was flaming Rory the Tiger and friends.

ejt1764 · 29/11/2007 21:16

now I'm confused ...

What is the problem

ejt1764 · 29/11/2007 21:53

Well, would you say that DdK was overly big? I'm new at this type of holiday - and don't know that we'd be happy with a massive place - although, if it doesn't feel massive, that's ok ...

(yes, I know, clear as mud!)

I must say that I'm attracted by the idea of the splashpark - ds would love that - and he's the main reason we'd be going there ...

OP posts:
AMerryScot · 29/11/2007 21:57

I don't think it was massive - not as big as the Centerparcs place we went to.

We were pretty much a middling distance away from the centre and it was a five minute walk at the most (toddler speed). The maximum would have been 10 minutes. There are very nice playgrounds dotted around, so they are only a few minutes walk.

ejt1764 · 30/11/2007 12:23

Thanks for that AMS - that's clarified things in my mind ... now to choose the dates, and book!
