I am living in hope that we will get abroad towards the end of the year and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for prepaid currency cards. I have a post office one, but would like another one in case of problems. I would specifically like one that can be topped up at a post office.

Maybe not quite what you're looking for, but I've got a Starling bank account. They don't charge anything for spending in foreign currencies on their Mastercard, and you just top up as much or as little as you want to from your own bank account (I do it via my bank's app on my phone).

It's not via the Post Office, obviously, but it could suit your needs.

I second Starling. MasterCard offer probably the most competitive exchange rate out of Visa and Amex. No foreign exchange fees either.

I know this isn’t what you’re looking for but Barclaycard Platinum credit card which charges no interest on cash withdrawals and no foreign exchange fees albeit offers a slightly poorer rate than Starling. Halifax Clarity also is a good one but it’s a credit card.

We use revolute and transfer money direct from my current account on to it.

I have a Monzo, top up straight from my bank online and I believe you can take out £200 fee free. Similar applies to revolut too. I recommend both

Another vote for Starling, same as Monzo, apart from there are no limits on the amount of cash you can withdraw.

It's just a bank account, so you can transfer money in instantly, wherever you are in the world. Or you could pay cash in at the Post Office, if you wanted to.

I’ve got a revolut card and find it so easy. I have a real card and also a virtual card in my apple wallet. Transfer money straight onto the card from my bank account and transfer between currencies at a decent rate quickly and easily. Only thing to know is that you get a slightly lower rate at weekends and theres a fee-free cash withdrawal limit of about £200/month so if you draw more cash than that there’s a fee

Wise is good, especially if you go to multiple countries.

Revolut. Used it a few times now in holiday. Really easy to use the app

Iknowtheanswer · 19/06/2021 15:53

We use Revolut.

HannibalHayes · 19/06/2021 18:28

Likewise with Starling you can use their app to make payments with your phone, should you so desire.

And there are no limits to how much you can withdraw without charges. You don't have to exchange money, you can just withdraw or spend in the local currency.
