I don't have to pay this, do I?

A few days ago, I received an email confirming that my holiday to Greece in July had been cancelled. It's an easyJet package holiday.
I still had roughly £1000 of the balance left to pay, due tomorrow. Obviously I haven't paid this as the holiday was cancelled.
This morning I've received an email telling me to pay the balance. This would be an automated thing, right? Surely not part of the rules in order to receive a refund?! Confused
Thanks.

I'd assume it's an automated email and you don't have to pay the balance.

Make sure you keep the email saying it’s been cancelled - but yes I’d assume I didn’t have to pay the balance.

Great, thanks. The 'balance' email does state that the holiday will be cancelled if I don't pay by tomorrow, so yes, I am working on the assumption that it's automated!

Call them to be on the safe side. Make sure it's definitely being cancelled without any penalties for you.

I hope you managed to get through to them. When was your holiday start date?

eatsleepread · 14/06/2021 17:04

Due to be on July 13th.

Thank you. Hope you get all the admin sorted.

Do check Ts and Cs. Sometimes you have to pay the full amount to be eligible for a refund. Bats I know!

Newnamefor2021 · 14/06/2021 17:51

Call to be sure. I heard a few people complain during lockdown 1.0 that companies refused to refund as people didn't keep up with payments. Although they wasn't the experience for me, I got refunded without paying the balance.

I cancelled mine for September as they changed my hotel and I had a couple of hundred left to pay. I rang jet2 and they cancelled the holiday, didn't have to pay anymore money and said I would get the money back in instalments with how I paidZ

princesslarmadrama · 14/06/2021 18:03

Paid*

I think as they have already sent you their cancellation you shouldn't have to pay it. But would try and confirm with them as sometimes its deemed as you cancelling if you don't pay in full. I think you will be OK as they have cancelled in writing, the issue is more when people assume a break will be cancelled so stop paying.

I was didn't pay my balance last year from an easyJet package, they then refunded my initial deposit plus the bit extra I'd paid on top of that, which I didn't expect and so I was pleasantly surprised.

eatsleepread · 14/06/2021 18:22

Hi. I actually managed to get through to EasyJet after not much of a wait! They confirmed that I do not have to pay the balance due, as the holiday had already been cancelled (by them), and that I would be refunded for the monies paid thus far.
Just wanted to report back on that, in case anyone else finds themselves in the same position!
Thanks.

Thanks for posting this, I have booked with easyjet as their cancellation policy seems to be the best on the market, so please to see that it's actually working , although completely gutted for you and your cancelled holiday. Do you feel like tormenting yourself and telling me where you were going?

eatsleepread · 14/06/2021 21:04

@Ducksurprise Thanks Thanks
And yes, I've been impressed with EasyJet so far. Would definitely book them for a holiday again.
I would have been going to Greece SmileSad
Hope it all works out for you too.
