Hi,

We're thinking of braving our pre booked trip to a camping/glamping site in France this summer - if we can!

DH is now getting his knickers in a twist after reading that loose swim shorts are banned at the pools.

Any one have any experience on how strictly this is actually enforced? Would he really be turned away from the pool area in looser fit swim shorts?

They are very strict, yes he would be turned away!

Tinkletwat · 13/06/2021 16:12

He'll be allowed tight fitting longer trunks, along the lines of these https://www.johnlewis.com/speedo-tech-placement-aquashorts-swim-shorts-black-laser-lemon-dragonfire-orange/p5249691

I used to frequent a pool in another country with the same rules, they had trunks that could be borrowed if a chap arrived in a non compliant pair Envy

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/06/2021 16:21

It's the rules in a fair bit of mainland Europe and should rightly be respected. Reassure your DH that no-one is looking or remotely bothered.

Ozberry · 13/06/2021 16:24

Something like this should do the trick

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 13/06/2021 16:28

What is the reason? They are so gross !

Hotchox · 13/06/2021 16:29

Yep. Too many blokes just going in the pool in whatever mucky ol' shorts they were wearing that day and the water gets dirty quicker - it will be policed in most places. Actual swim shorts like the ones linked to upthread are FAR more common in France than here, so he won't look out of place wearing them. If the briefs in the John Lewis link are still a bit mini, then there's Jammers too - which look like this: www.swimshop.co.uk/swimwear/mens/jammers

Catawaul · 13/06/2021 16:38

I wonder if he thinks women's swimwear is too skimpy as well?

Tiredandtorn · 13/06/2021 16:45

Thanks everyone!!

The first thing I said was how do you think women have felt since forever having to basically wear undies at the pool?! Thanks for the links too! I'll send him off shopping with them.

Spare shorts?!? Good grief 🤮🤣🤣

Just get a pair for £1.50 from Decathlon.

They won't let him in without them. The idea is that loose shorts could possibly have been worn outside the pool whereas nobody would wear speedo types elsewhere!

Imasoulman · 13/06/2021 17:13

They need to make them with a bit of padding, a push up system. "WonderTrunks"

Think I might take this to Dragons Den Grin

Tiredandtorn · 13/06/2021 17:23

Brilliant!! 🤣

This is an odd rule though. I prefer the style of English swimming trunks.

MrsFin · 13/06/2021 17:33

DH was asked to leave a municipal open air pool in Avignon a few years back for wearing the wrong attire.

Naggety · 23/06/2021 11:12

We got caught out with this. My DH ended up wearing cycling shorts once as he hadn't brought the right trunks - and they looked near enough like a swimming costume. My DS16 wore his younger brother's loose trunks which were skin tight on him!
