Unique UK staycation for a minimoon?

nearlywed21 · 07/06/2021 21:26

Of course with on going pandemic, don't think it is possible or wise to be going abroad for our honeymoon so will likely postpone a big holiday abroad. However, as a celebration shortly after the wedding we have taken a few days of annual leave. I'm aware staycationing will be very popular this year and likely mostly already booked up :(

Any suggestions?

Anywhere in the UK?
I have heard good things about:

Newmill Farm Wigwams
www.wigwamholidays.com/newmill-farm

Hendricks Hollow in Yorkshire
www.beautifulescapes.co.uk/property/hendricks-hollow/

Hudnalls Hideaway
www.coolstays.com/inspiration/Treehouses

Not stayed in any myself but do any sound like a possibility?

There were some great deals at The Shangri-La at The Shard for this summer if you fancy a city break.

The Pig “restaurants with rooms” are absolutely fabulous.

Gara Rock in Devon is fabulous, as is The Slaughters Manor House in the Cotswolds. Morston Hall in Norfolk is brill and there’s always Gleneagles......

I have found much better availability at hotels than self catering for obvious reasons but prices are generally high full stop.

Thank you both.

@FlibbertyGiblets Cool stays is an interesting website. Would love to stay in a nice treehouse.

@Zodlebud The Shard looks great! but all thats left for our dates are the mega expensive rooms sadly.

Other fab London hotels are Ham Yard and Charlotte Street Hotel.

@Zodlebud wow both very nice but none available at Charlotte street and cheapest at Ham Yard is £746/night - do normal people actually pay these rates?! Or is it funded by their company / with voucher codes etc. I wouldn't dream of paying that (despite having a pretty decent income)..

Are you a foodie? I just took my husband for an incredible weekend away in Marlow with dinner at Tom Kerridge’s Hand and Flowers and a night in one of the cottages right by the restaurant. It was expensive (the room was £325 a night and the food was expensive - although set lunches are available) but it was utterly idyllic. The room had a four poster bed and a private terrace with a hot tub (expressly emphasised it was emptied and cleaned between guests). Home made treats and posh coffee in the room. It was magical.

Not sure on your dates but if you like animals have you looked at staying overnight at zoos. I think Whipsnade and port lymph do overnight stays. Not sure on the availability

Stay in a lighthouse or somewhere unusual? A landmark trust property?

Is it a bank holiday or something? I just paid £350 for a massive family room at The Landmark (another five star hotel). A decent hotel room will cost about that but not £750 a night.

Another one for the Scarlet in Cornwall. It's adults only so great for a mini moon.

This year I’m going on a holiday to Jersey and I’m going on a cruise around the UK, would either of these ideas appeal to you?

We stayed here last year and it was amazing. Brilliant if you like something a bit different (might be pretty full depending on your dates).

Congratulations Smile
